Congrats Gate, you may be right on the ball with this current road trip. Nevertheless, let us remember that there is always next year!

Hey, cant believe they kept me interested for this long. I cant imagine how good wright and reyes will be with another year. I think Beltran will be better after a year in New York (see A-Rods gaudy numbers this year). Plus, with minaya running the show, i think he will get some sh*t down. another hitter and some bullpen help please!!!

The real Mets slogan "There is always next year."

The only concern I have for next year is Dumbo. He has shown a total disregard for stats (could it be he doesn’t understand how the stats are derived). He is also obstinate, slow to react, still has trouble with something as simple as the double switch, has problems handling a bull pen, and seems to have no idea how to make out a lineup. Would it take a bolt of lightening for him to move Beltran to the 2 hole where historically he has excelled and Wright to the three hole where he belongs or is there no hope for the mentally challenged manager. I think Dumbo is in over his head.

BTW we all owe Art Howe an apology. The 2004 team really sucked and was .500 on 7/21. After that they were decimated by injuries. Recall only two players played 130 games, Cameron with 140 and Eric Valent. Some of the names from last years team, Danny Garcia, Keppinger, Wigginton, McEwing, Gutierrez, Wilson Delgado, a washed up Zeile and who can forget the famous pizza pissing duo and of course the great Brian Buchanan.

The difference in the talent and injury level (yes there were injuries this year the most significant being the collision but compare the talent level between this year and last) is such that I think with this years team Art Howe would have done better than Dumbo (but the media still would have crucified him).

This is not to say I would have liked Art Howe back, it just means I would like Dumbo gone.

Willie will be given at least another year because,

1. He is a rookie manager,
2. The media loves him,
3. Omar will not easily admit he made an error in hiring him (look how long he went with Ishii),
4. It would be politically incorrect and the Wilpons are sensitive to this.

If there is a firing on the coaching staff it will be the hitting coach or someone like that.

I would settle for just most situations. Anyway the club collapsed and that’s not a good sign.

Notify the Wilpons immediately that you have their man.

BTW after Willie is fired next year Gary Carter will be the Mets new manager. :laugh2:

It's hard to defend Willie when the club is tanking it.

It became obvious we weren't good enough quite a long time ago. It looks like we've got a nice core of young position players in Reyes, Wright, Beltran (though he's underperformed), and Diaz. I'd like to see Jacobs play the rest of the season to see whether or not he's worth giving a platoon position at 1st base (LaRoche/Franco style) next season. I've seen enough potential from Diaz to warrant moving Cameron in the offseason if possible. Diaz has the potential to give us far better numbers than Cameron and is a lot cheaper. Cameron can be of real use to a team that needs a CFer. Hopefully, he plays winter ball, and we can trade him in the offseason.

Our starting rotation can use an ace. I'm not sure who's available. Pedro simply can't be counted on for the whole season. Next season it will be important to give him as much rest as possible to keep him fresh for the second half of the season. The same holds true for Benson, who has also been overpitched this season. Glavine has proven to still be effective. And Trax and Seo are above average. The problem is none of those guys really are Clemens or Carpenter like and it would be nice to sign a pitcher who is.

We also need a closer.

What the mets need is a top of the line closer, Willie is fine as the manager, the mets will definitely be better next season, all they need is another bat and some bullpen help!!!
