While it was a rough week for several ex-Grizzly football players trying to make NFL rosters, another former UM standout became a last-minute addition to the New York Jets: Scott Gragg.

"As of 4 p.m. Eastern time, I'm a New York Jet," the 6-foot-8, 315-pound tackle said Tuesday. "I signed a one-year deal with them today, I start practice tomorrow, and I'm trying to drink the playbook like water through a fire hose."

Gragg, an NCAA Division I-AA All-American in 1993-94, was a starter the past nine seasons in the NFL, the last five with San Francisco. The 49ers released him in June in a salary cap move.

"The Jets, who are up against the salary cap, decided to sign Gragg now and guarantee his salary for the entire season, in part because several teams where interested in him, including Dallas, Detroit, New Orleans and Pittsburgh".

This is GREAT news for depth and a veteran who can play solidly at RT if Jones does not pan out well. Granit, I and most others still have all the confidence in the world in Adrian Jones to suceed at RT and most think he will...But depth wise and if Gragg needs to slide in, this beats putting in Brent Smith or JP Machado by a LONG shot...

Also considering that backup OT Marko Cavka fractured his hand this also is big...My guess would be Issac Snell will be waived then signed to the practice squad for Gragg to get on the active roster, or Cavka is placed on IR, though it's reported he's going to be out 8-10 weeks...

As I said above...To make room, the Jets placed Marko Cavka on IR...

I read somewhere they still have one more spot on the practice squad available...I wouldn't mind putting Chas Gessner or Atari Bigby on their if they haven't already signed somewhere else PQ wise...
