The Giants-Saints game, driven from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, will be played as part of a nationally televised doubleheader starting at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Monday, Sept. 19. The game, already moved to the Giants' home in the New Jersey Meadowlands, will begin on ABC, then be switched to ESPN at 9 p.m., when ABC goes to the regularly scheduled game between Washington and Dallas in Irving, Texas. In New York and Louisiana, as well as other parts of the Gulf Coast, ABC will continue to carry the Giants-Saints game, switching to Redskins-Cowboys when the Saints game ends. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said other details, such as ticket sales, will be announced soon. "We appreciate the leadership of ABC and ESPN in helping us turn this particular Monday night into far more than a prime-time football doubleheader, making it part of the overall Gulf Coast relief effort," commissioner Paul Tagliabue said in a statement released by the NFL. "The New Orleans Saints know the importance of rising to help meet the Gulf Coast's extraordinary challenges, and we salute them, too." The NFL said fund-raising efforts for hurricane relief will be intertwined in the telecasts of both games. Saints coach Jim Haslett, already miffed at losing a home game, found it curious the NFL would allow this game to overlap with the already scheduled Monday nighter. "I really don't know why they're doing it," Haslett said, rolling his eyes. Monday was the likely choice because the Meadowlands is playing host to a soccer game Saturday, Sept. 17 and the New York Jets play the Miami Dolphins there on Sunday. The Saints are still waiting for a decision where they'll play the remaining seven games scheduled for the Superdome. The candidates are LSU's Tiger Stadium, the team's overwhelming choice; the Alamodome in San Antonio, where the Saints are living and practicing; or being on the road for all 16 games. The scheduling does not totally satisfy the other NFC East teams because the Giants get an extra home game from the switch -- even if they are officially listed as visitors. "I'd be smart not to comment on that," Dallas coach Bill Parcells said Monday. The Cowboys are so looking forward to having the national attention on Sept. 19 that they've scheduled the Ring of Honor induction of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin for halftime of that game. |

i dont think it really gives us an advantage, i dont remember the last time we won a monday night game. All i can think of is that hearbreaking loss 2 years ago to are archrival cowboys on monday night. That game was so depressing, it was definitley one of the best monday night games( unless your a Giants fan). Im assuming the endzones will be for new orleons and well be wearing our new white jerseys. |

Are you kidding? The game went from being played in the Super Dome with their fans to Giants Stadium. It definitely helps out the Giants, no matter how the endzones are painted or which color uniform the Giants wear. Even as a Giants fan, I think it is kind of a joke. They should play all their games at the Alamodome. They want Tigers Stadium, but it's not realistic at this point. |

idk, we usually lose on monday night though, even when were home. I guess it gives us an advantage, but i think if they need relief money to be raised by a game its gonna be a lot easier in NY, were we always sell out and have alot of money. They probably wouldnt be able to raise as much dough if they were doing it someplace down south. I was reading on NFL.com that they may play even more games on the road than just this one, so it might not be only us wiht 9 plus home games. |

They've lost on MNF because they've been bad and they've choked. The Giants haven't exactly been a good team over the last few years. The Donovan McNabb comeback...the silly squib kick "special teams f*ck 'em again" nonsense....the embarassment vs. Tampa that featured Amani Toomer dropping a wide open pass on a streak, Amani Toomer getting blown up on an illegal hit that resulted in a dropped pass - but of course, the refs didn't throw a flag, and Kerry Collins soft tossing to his 8 year son, John Lynch. It had nothing to do with the fact that it was MNF. All that did was put the sh*t we had been seeing regularly on stage for a national audience. The Brian Westbrook punt return wasn't MNF. There have been a whole bunch of 1:05 on FOX head shakers. The same things would've happened on a Tuesday morning. Its not a curse. I think what gives them an advantage is this whole situation. The fact that there's chaos and pandemoneum in New Orleans. I'm sure a lot of the players live in or around that area so their houses might've been flooded and what not. Not just the fact that they won't play a real home game, some of them might not have homes. Them and their families will have to cope with all the sh*t going on so you can't expect them to be 100% focused on football. That and their Charmin defense. But there is the equalizer. The Saints do have a lot of talent on offense and the Giants secondary is still questionable. The Giants middle is questionable. LeCharles Bentley & Jermaine Mayberry + Duece McAllister vs. Will Joseph & Kendrick Clancy.....Aaron Brooks + Joe Horn vs. Will Allen. |

That's the reason they will spin for giving the home game to the Giants, but I don't buy that being the legit reason. |

i wouldnt say the Giants have been a bad the past few years( unless your only including the past 2). So far this decade weve been to a superbowl and another playoff year( we blew that year but were also cheated out), better than most NFL teams. |

wrong quote. Sorry bout that. I just downt know about the advantage thing, sure the Giants have a significant advantage at home, but they havent won on monday night in a long time, it may have been more than 5 years. Plus raising money in the NY market for the victems is important. |

I didn't see Strider's post. Now I read it. While I don't think they have been as bad as he might think over the past 5 years, anytime you give a team a home game, you're giving them an advantage, and I agree with Strider that Monday Night Football was not the reason they lost those games. They have been bad in recent years on MNF, but I don't think it's the reason they lost, and I certainly don't think it negates the advantage they have been given by having this game at home. It cuts out a long trip, they get to sleep in their own beds, play in front of their own fans, and on their own field. |

i dont agree with him on them being that bad in recent history, a super bowl loss and playoff apperance( in which we were jipped) isnt that bad actually, better than most teams have been. But we have been very poor on monday night, its been a long time since we won a MNF game. All i can remeber is that last loss to Dallas in 03 :crybaby: |

Yep, about 45 min in the parking lot, another 2 hours to get home, work at 8:30am. Not good times, to say the least. Oh yeah, I went with one Giant hater and one Dallas fan. |

ouch that sucks, its one of the best all time MNF games, unless your a Giants fan. We do have a history of blowing games to the Cowboys on MNF. I dont know how u could sit there with a Cowboys fan, what team does the Giants hater root for |

He's a Jets fan. His brother is the Cowboys fan. The seats were their family's, so it's not like I could have gone with other people. They're friends of mine though. I am not knocking them. It just hurt more not to be able to share the misery with other people on the way home. |

This is much better than thw Giants playing just ahead of the Jets. The field won't get shitted and tore up on before the Jets game, so it's cool... |

LT, the Giants have averaged 7 wins per season the last 6 years and that's including the 12 win Super Bowl season and the 10-6 2002 choke squad. I don't know if that counts as a "bad" team, thinking of the connotation that goes with it, but I know sub-.500 ain't good. And when I said it, I was thinking about the more recent teams. Like I said, those debacles weren't just happening on Monday night. All MNF has done is highlight it so that more attention is paid to it. But come on, this team has blown a whole lotta leads in reg'lar ole games. Special teams had screwed up so often. Another thing - usually on MNF, its not a matchup of 2 terrible teams (except for Cowboys/Redskins a few years back) so the Giants have been facing good competition in those games. |

Well recent times as in last 2 years weve been terrible. 00-02 was good, not great but better than most. As for MNF, youre right usually elite teams play except for the cowboys(most popular team that gets good ratings). The only bad matcup this season is boys/skins, i personally think out of there 2 big rivals we should have been picked to play that game but i know alot of dumb analyist think the skins will be better than us. |
