Matsui is not in it for the money. Obviously he could have made twice what he's making with the Tokyo Giants. His dream was to play for the Yankees. :rock:

Wow, so did Suzuki, which is why he picked #51. I guess Bernie is a popular player in Japan. Although I am not sure it was really as a kid since they're only a little under 6 years apart in age. Both started playing for their teams early, so I guess Matsui might have liked him as a late teen.

you wonder why bernie was a role model to some of these players. i can understand beltran, since hes a fellow puerto rican centerfielder. but bernie, hes not exactly that todd helton type, hard-working,blue collar player. he got where he did on pure talent. youd think youd want to emulate the smart baseball players that bust their asses and get where they do on hardwork primarily. now im not saying the guy didnt bust his butt at certain points of his career, particularly starting out. but in reality, hes not the greatest role model for a player youd want.
