Bill Mazeroski...worst HOFer. Career .260 batter, 138 HR's. Got in because of one hit.

That one hit and his pivot on the DP was a prototype that other 2nd basemen of the time measured themselves against.

Oh, Matty, you're here.  You wanna have our Kent HOF argument publically here?

Not really, don't have much time during lunch, but I basically agree with all of your points. My standards are high for the HOF too, but I just think because of the position he plays, he is nearing "lock status." It doesn't mean I necessarily agree with it, but he's getting in. Hell, I don't even think of Palmeiro as a no doubt HOF'er, but he's a lock on two angles now, almost 600 HRs and over 3000 hits.

Palmeiro is a joke. He's accomplished a lot of things, but he instantly becomes the worst player ever to be a HOF'er when he's inducted (and he will be.)

How about Rizzuto, Terps? I loved him as an announcer but his career was hardly Hall of Fame worthy. Same with PeeWee Reese. :peace:

He won an MVP award and played on seven WS champs. He was also in the top 6 MVP voting twice more, and in the top 20 seven times.

He's a borderline HOFer as a player, i'll admit that. But as I said before, its Hall of Fame, not Hall of Stats.

Thank you Terps.

Many of Reese’s teammates claimed he was the glue of those teams. His play transcended his numbers. And YB not every out fielder in the HOF has Ruth’s numbers. Wagner was an all time great, just like Ruth was, just like Walter Johnson was and just like A-Rod is.

When Jackie Robinson was brought up to the majors his acceptance by the team came much more readily because Reese took Robinson under his wing so to speak. Most of the club followed Reese.

He said he was border line HOF. I happen to think Reese and Rizzuto are borderline "just misses" and that they got in on a sentimental vote. :peace:

How many of their games did you actually see. Some players can't be judged unless you actually see them play over and over again. My family members were big time Brooklyn Dodger fans (they couldn’t believe I followed the Yankees, but the Dodgers moved to LA) and they used to tell me about the boys of summer. Reese's overall play was considered something special and I assume Rizzuto's was too. They were probably put in because of the intangibles that you can’t see by just looking at stats. I seem to remember an old story that some of the Bosox players of Rizzuto’s era said the difference between the Bosox and the Yankees was Rizzuto.

As far as being border line HOF, it’s like a HR that scrapes the back of the fence on the way down. It still counts as an hr.
