I wholeheartily agree, but there's just not that many good relievers out there anymore, especially lefties. I don't see who was available that Cashman and company could have gotten. |

And yet the Sunshiners defend the guy who has killed us with his boneheaded moves. Redding should be nowhere near this team. |

I agree, all the lefties he has brought in have sucked, but tell me who else he could have gotten. |

Well, not trading Marte would have helped a lot now. |

Can't argue with you there, but I just don't think there are many good relievers anymore. The Yankees had a lot of them in the mid 1990s. |

I liked Mendoza. He escaped a lot of jams with DPs. And you could count on him for a spot start and expect 4-5 innings of so-so pitching. I think El Duque's on the DL right now (home sweet home), but looking back, he should've defitely been brought back. What, he wanted a 2 year deal? So? He wouldn't have been making much and if worse came to worse, he could be released. Its not like this organization hasn't squandered money on sh*t. |

I agree. Declining Lieber's option and letting El Duque go sucked ass. |

Yeah, Mendoza was the man, and the Yankee bullpen was so deep that he was usually the 4th man out of the pen. This is something I always disagree with Mike and Dog about. They always say if you could have 3 relievers, you are fine. If you have Sturtze in the 7th, Gordon in the 8th, and Mo in the 9th, you can't complain (it is always in response to people complaining about the starter coming out after 6 or 7). I disagree. You want a deep pen so Gordon doesn't end up with 80+ games again. Mendoza could do it all back in the day- come in for the middle innings, setup, start. I agree about El Duque too. I don't get that, but I think part of the thinking is there were too many guys with guaranteed deals. Of course they have released 3 of them, so it's a moot point, but at the time they thought they had too many pitchers as it was. |
