and don't try to make this your sauce....it was in the Florida papers this morning One undeveloped yet intriguing scenario to the Marlins: bringing back Carl Pavano for Burnett and Al Leiter, who they designated for assignment Thursday. The Yankees made a bid for Leiter last offseason and are desperate for starting pitching. A few things could derail a Pavano return engagement before it gets rolling. The two teams would have to work out the money to where the Marlins would end up with a three-year, roughly $21 million commitment, what they offered Pavano last offseason. Pavano, who will have three years and about $31 million left on his contract after 2005, has a no trade clause this season. Burnett is believed to favor a long-term deal with the Orioles or Red Sox rather than the Yankees. "It doesn't matter," Burnett said. "If I go, I go. If I stay, I stay. You have to block all that out. ... They got me tonight. I was nowhere to be found." |

Yeah, I read Florida papers. I had this story lastnight but be sat on it untill I had another sauce to confirm. I'm also hearing the Yanks interested in Ramon Ortiz(yuck!) and that the Yankees are not acting on Leiter because of incentives in his contract that they don't like. |

Don't see how this deal helps us except getting out from Pavano's contract. Burnett is going to command the same type deal Pavano got and I'm tired of marching out a different NL pitcher of the month every year. Plus Leiter the only thing Leiter brings to the table is he sucks using his left arm. At this point I don't see many starting pitchers other then maybe Schmidt that would be obtained for a reasonable price and would impove the team enough to warrant giving up a decent prospect. I think the direction I'd go is get Chacon and strengthen the bullpen. If we can't have starters string together 7/8 solid innings our best hope is our offense keeps us in the game until the 6th or 7th and we burn out the relievers. |

Schmidt would cost us Cano No way in hell i want him at that price. I would do this deal to rid ourselves from Pavano's contract. If Burnett sucks, he is gone. Leiter is gone after this year anyway. |

I guess the Marlins would be doing that based on Pavano's numbers from last season and ignoring the fact that Burnett is more talented. Unless there's something wrong with him that we don't know about. Trying to dump him off since he won't be back and get someone back who they know. |

All first year free agents have built in no trades until June 15, so if it's just for this year, it just extends it a few more months, essentially a month and a half before the non-waivers trade deadline. |

:please: Go to a Four man rotation. Back in the old days, that was the norm. These pitchers are too coddled. Just pitch azzholes! :annoyed: |
