He'll be a Yankee in 10 minutes! I don't want to hear the 6 + ERA sh*t, when you currently have May and Redding in your rotation you HAVE to make this happen......short term for now....maybe he can pitch well. Brown about a week away, Pavano 2..........Wright...f*ck HIM.... Wang DONE! |

You got to do it at this point, if anything at least for a short term solution rather then sending out Small, Redding or May, at least at this point you only have to send out 1 of the 2 considering you have Sturtze as an option and Brown should be back next week. |

I actually just heard Kay said the Yanks can't give up someone for Leiter, but you have to sign him if he clears waivers in 10 days. I agree. Posted Image |

One of the teams lower in the standings would claim over the Yanks him I would think. |

Lets clarify the rule here. After the 10 days, he is put on waivers, or is he given his irrevocable release? If waivers, I guess a worse team would claim him, but maybe not since they might not have the need for an over the hill pitcher. I was under the impression that teams wait until waivers is over because then they are only responsible for the prorated portion of the league minimum and it's better for the player because he could choose where he is going. Lets use Stanton as an example, the 10 days passed, and he signed with whoever he wanted. If waivers were involved, does that mean nobody worse than St. Louis and Washington, which were supposedly his two options, claimed him before Washington signed him? This sh*t gets complicated. |

The guy is done. If he manages to get out of the 4th inning these days, he's done well. Against the AL, he probably wouldn't be able to make it out of the 3rd. I guess it would be a low risk signing if he clears waivers, but he isn't worth giving up a player with potential. |

Leiter is done, but May and Redding aren't better. The Yankees have 4 starters on the DL! Leiter is at least a body. I'd rather not trade for him, but I would pick him up in a second when the 10 days is up. Trading for him means giving something up and paying his salary, unless Florida throws in cash. |

He would clear waivers because he signed an $8 mil contract this summer. I believe any team that claims him would be responsible for about half of that contract. If you trade for him, you would still have to pay a good chunk of that contract. I'd let him become a free agent and then sign him. |

That's what I am talking about, signing him whenever it is that he becomes a free agent with Florida responsible for most of his contract. I am 99.9% sure that is after the 10 days and that any waiver period is within this 10 day period once being designated for assignment. |

During the 10 day period he can be traded by his previous employer. After the 10 day period he is outright released. |

:please: I may be wrong Matty, but I don't think waivers apply. If Florida can't trade him within the ten day and he refuses an assignment to their minor leagues, then he is unconditionally released, Florida owes him the full contract and he can sign (for prorated league minimum?) with whoever he wants. That is my understanding. :peace: |

You guys have it now. After 10 days he goes through waivers, and then Florida is responsible for all but the major league minimum (if he clears waivers). So once they do this, they lose all leverage. You could probably call Florida right now, and offer to pay 1/4 to 1/2 of his salary, and they'll jump all over it because it's better than paying 95% of it. |

if we only have to pay 1/4 (a million), i'd do that. we need a decent option . |
