i feel it is going to take approximately 90-95 wins to make the playoffs. that means that this team is going to have to play at the very least .700 ball from here on in. i don't know about you guys but i feel that this team with a little bit of tweaking and a lot of creativity will be able to do that.
1. no more experiments with giambi. either cut his ass or stick his fat underachieving ass on the bench. tino plays 1st everyday(he is not great but he is seviceable and clutch).
2. package a deal with a team "like" tampa. pay off a good majority of jaret wrights contract and go get a good defensive centerfielder "like" baldelli(every championship caliber team has good defense up the middle and bernie's not cutting it).
3. do whatever it takes to get eddie guardado from seattle(this team desperately needs lefthanded help out of the pen). if you have to give them wang and cash plus take over guardado's contract then you do whatever it takes.

i know a lot of you may not agree with me on giving up youth to win right now but like it or not this team is built to win right now not in 3,4 or 5 years from now.
your thoughts???

At this point, I am not making any trades until after the ASB. See where we are there, then maybe try and get a starter if we are close.

The Giambi sh*t has to end. Just cut him and be done with it, it's lingering over the team. You gotta believe guys like Jeter just want to punch Giambi in his face sometimes. I know I do. Call up Phillips and let him play 1B against lefties with Tino playing most of the time against righties.

Yeah, Tino will hit in the .235-.250 range but he'll give us great D and a clutch HR here and there. Phillips should be OK as the backup 1B.

With 100 games left, I'm not ready to give up on the year yet, but I don't want to start trading for guys we may not even need. We just need guys like RJ, Pavano, and Moose to step up and pitch the way they are capable. RJ's last start was great, Pavano's last 2 have been great, Moose has been just OK, those 3 need to keep it up and pitch well. Brown sucks, and Wang is Wang so far, we gotta hope he keeps it up too.

Jeter and Womack need to start hitting again at the top. And Bernie, Posada, and Tino need to get on track on the bottom. Sheffield, A-Rod, and Matsui are doing their thing (minus Matsui's HR's) in the middle. But the hits they get mean nothing half the time because Tino K's and Posada hits into an inning ended double play. The top and bottom of the order have to get going again like they were when we won 16 of 18. Sheff, A-Rod, and Matsui can't win games on their own.

We have the players to win. We were 3 outs away from the WS last year with the same team, only now we have RJ instead of Lieber, Pavano instead of El Duque, and Wand instead of Contreras/Loaiza.

The players need to go out there and win. Making trades at this point, I don't think that will help.

This team is "talented" enough to do it, do they have the heart, I don't know!

I need to see where this team is going over the next month before Im willing to concede this season is lost or whether we need to trade for help. If our offense continues to sputter and our starting pitching, particularly the Big Unit and Carlie Boy, improves, perhaps we can look into a bat for first base or DH. Who? I don't know. We'll leave that up to the organization to figure.

Yes, I agree. Normally you don't want first base to be one of your weakest offense positions, but the team has a good core of offensive players that we can afford a Brosius-type that won't have great statistical output, but can be relied on for a big hit here and again and give us a good glove. Giambi is finished, end of story. There's nothing that can be done with him though; I'm sorry, but even the Yankees cannot eat 80 million dollars. He stays on the bench as a pitchhitter, since at the very least he does have a .370 on base percentage and can perhaps draw a walk late in the game.

Realistically, aside from the pitching to pitch to it's potential, what this team needs is for all their hitters to break out of their slumps. Nobody has been producing at the level they are capable of during this losing streak. Even A-Rod, aside from the 2 homer game, has not hit like the MVP candidate we expect. As the adage goes, hitting is contagious. Once someone gets going on this team, whether it's Jeter, A-Rod, Matsui, Posada, or whoever, hopefully others follow.

Giamroid has had his chance to prove himself and failed. (In my opinion he got way too much of a chance and it cost the team, especially his play at first base).

Good idea about Giambi as a late inning pinch hitter (he does consistently draw walks). Now just tell Joe!

But he's so close, he has that average all the way up to the .230's!
