the Met's plan for handling the extra pitching and Willies very interesting answers to questions was discussed in a article by Anothony Rieber (never heard of this guy, Newsday seems to assign there best writers to the Yankees) in Newsday: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/met...l=ny-mets-print. One option the Mets have is to place Heilman in the bullpen. Notre Dame used him in the BP and he was outstanding. You can start off by using him in place of DeJean and Bell and if he looks good then gradually work him up to where he takes Hernandez’s spot (the guy is 40 years old) and then perhaps Looper’s role. You never knew. Dennis Eckersley was a starter with the Cubs until LaRussa made him the closer for Oakland. |

The term "logjam" is misleading. Other than Pedro, right now we have a logjam of starting pitchers who aren't very good. I believe Benson will be very good and give us 7 innings most starts and Glavine I also believe is clever enough to make the necessary adjustments the rest of the way. But that's just what I think, and by no means a certainty. Our ace is good, but after that there is nothing resembling consistency and Ishii isn't going to fix that. Seems to me like the 90 win prediction is going to be about 10 games too high (though an improvement still). The offense has been inconsistent but not the reason we're losing. The spotty pitching is. |

I know, really. Every one of Gategem's posts/threads all contain downers and negativity up the ass. It's depressing. |

I call it the way I see it. When the Mets had a good team I called it and when they had a bad team I called it. This team has the potential to be very good but they have issues and I am sure Omar will address them. If you pay attention to any of the talk shows you will here worse then what I call. You guys remind me of the idiot football Giants fans of the 1970's when every year the experts would correctly predict a garbage year for a garbage team and the experts were always proven right. But at the beginning of the year the TV stations would interview some season ticket holders and these guys were always predicting Super Bowl for the Giants. By the end of the year the only bowl the Giants were in might have been a toilet bowl that was in the locker room. I have to assume that because of your passion for the Mets it blinds you to the holes on this team. A good fan recognizes the problems but sticks with his team and hopes his team will overcome the problems. The fan with his head up his a*s takes your point of view. I will continue to call it the way I see it. If you don’t like it and want me to stop posting on the Mets board I gladly will. I don’t want you guys going on Prozac because of me. |

I know the problems but I don't wish to read about them in every single thread. I realize what's up but it seems that all you post about is the negative things wrong with this team. I'm not telling you you can't post anymore, I was just pointing this out. |

But there is a lot of fun in discussing the weaknesses and talking about how the club can go about improving themselves. Perhaps the problem is that except for the couple of years Bobby V. got the team to over achieve you have been used to teams the were bad and not improving. If you had seen the team starting from 1984 till 1989 you would hold the present team to higher standards. |
