Why do some Met fans delude themselves into thinking that this team is a contender? The Mets have some many holes that they are holier then the new Pope. You have a starting rotation where Heilman is your 2nd best pitcher. You keep throwing the Z man out there when a real contender would have sent him down to the minors and try and bring up somebody that will help win some games. If you want to win a title you don’t let the salary, or that you traded one of the best pitching prospects in many a year for this bum the Z man. You eat your mistake and then go about trying to improve the team. BTW the same thing goes for Matsui and Galvine. You breathlessly await the recovery of Ishii who the Dodgers were so happy to find a sucker to take him. You don’t win pennants with the Ishii’s of the world. Your other pitchers consist of a washed up Tom Glavine and a never was in Benson. Their relief pitching makes you hold your breath wihen ever they come into a game. If the relief pitcher gets through the inning without problems Met fans immediately run out and buy a lotto ticket. In all the years I having been watching baseball I have never seen a ball club with as much problems as the Mets be a contender. Right now .500 is the best this team is going to be able to do and that is the way they are playing now, like a .500 team. |

They won't contend with only one upper echelon SP in the NL East. They need someone to step up this season, or else wait until next season to seriously contend. |

Every team has holes, relax a little, the season just started, the mets can always make improvements later in the season!!! |

Don't make decisions with your heart. I just watch each game and try to get enjoyment out of it. But I don't set my sites high when I see the holes they have. Actually the Mets have holes only if you consider the Grand Canyon a hole in the ground. The Mets are not going to catch the Braves and Marlins with their current pitching staff. You have to be honest about it. With the Mets it is WYSIWYG and they are playing like a .500 team. |

Instead of thinking about where the Mets are going to go and end up disappointed (actually they are going to Shea after this game so they are going somewhere) think about what the Mets have to do to improve themselves where you can realistically have hope of being in the playoffs. |
