ALL'S NOT WRIGHT IN JARET'S DEBUT
April 9
New York Post: Mariano Rivera isn't the only person booed around Yankee Stadium these days.
Jaret Wright made his first Yankee start last night in front of 43,128 impatient and ultimately unhappy fans. Well, his mom and dad were pulling for him.
But when Wright imploded in his pinstriped debut, the rest of the Yankee crowd let him have it.
The 29-year-old righty heard the boos after serving up a tie-breaking two-run homer to Baltimore's Brian Roberts in the third — and he hit the showers to even more boos with nobody out in the fifth.
Wright left the Yankees in a 5-1 ditch and was charged with six earned runs in four innings in the Yanks' 12-5 loss to the Orioles.
"I knew coming over here, it's performance and winning," Wright said of his reception. "And if you don't do that ... that's all fine with me.
"Because I'm out there trying to perform, and if it doesn't happen, I'll be the first one to point the finger at myself."

Jeter Back At Head Of Bombers' Lineup
April 9
New York Post: Even though medical tests on Wednesday cleared Derek Jeter's head, so to speak, Joe Torre called his shortstop Thursday to make sure Jeter was OK.
Everything was fine, and the Yankee captain was back atop the lineup for last night's 12-5 loss to Baltimore.
Jeter seemed almost embarrassed as he answered question after question about his recent scare before the game.
"No problems, really. Nothing. Everything's good," he said.
Jeter, who went 3-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and two runs, was nailed in the head by Mike Timlin in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. He stayed in the game to run the bases but left in the ninth when he complained of ringing in his ears and general wooziness.
He was checked out at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. A CT scan came back clean, and the gritty veteran said the whole procedure took about 45 minutes.

Joe opts to save Rivera for later
April 9
New York Daily News: After Mariano Rivera threw a total of 59 pitches in his first two outings of the season, Joe Torre said he wanted to give his closer the night off.
In perhaps the lone positive for the Yanks last night, they did not need to use Rivera. Torre said he planned to use Tom Gordon to close against the Orioles, though Baltimore made it a moot point by thumping the Yankees, 12-5.
Rivera, who blew consecutive saves against the Red Sox, threw 21 pitches Tuesday and 38 on Wednesday. "Usually, we follow that with a couple of days off," Torre said. Rivera and the rest of the Yankees had an off-day Thursday before returning to the field last night.
Rivera was booed Wednesday after allowing five runs (one earned) in two-thirds of an inning against the Red Sox. He has blown six of his last 11 save chances against Boston, including four straight.
Rivera did not throw during the offseason and missed a chunk of spring training with a tender elbow.

Jeter (3-for-3) looks just fine
April 9
New York Daily News: Derek Jeter must be okay. Not only did he go 3-for-3 last night after getting hit in the head Wednesday, he also was his old self.
In a four-minute span yesterday, he said the incident wasn't a big deal five times.
"It's really not that big of a deal," the Bombers captain said before returning to his customary positions - shortstop and leadoff - in the Yankees' loss to the Orioles last night at the Stadium.
Of course, Jeter's condition is always a big deal, no matter how much he tries to downplay it. Jeter left the Yankees' 7-3 loss to the Red Sox after getting hit by reliever Mike Timlin and feeling a ringing in his ears while on base.
But the ill effects quickly subsided, Jeter said. He said he spent only a half hour at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where a CT scan was taken. The test came back normal.
Jeter insisted that everything that was done was precautionary, from being removed from the game to the hospital examination. Still, Joe Torre called Jeter just to make certain he was okay.
The manager had no need to worry after last night's display, though: Jeter reached base all five times at bat and raised his average to .500 (7-for-14) before Rey Sanchez replaced him in the ninth.
