The Yankees signed righty Pete Munro to a minor league contract and sent him to Columbus. Munro, a graduate of Cardozo High in Queens, was 4-7 with a 5.15 ERA in 21 games (19 starts) for the Astros last year and made two starts without a decision in the NLCS against the Cardinals. Munro, 30, is 13-19 in 120 games (40 starts) for Toronto and Houston.

Decent signing.

Pretty Decent signing. Could be a long reliever or sub for somebody in the rotation when the time comes.

One of Munro's friends called Mike and Dog the other day, ripping on the Astros for letting him go. He didn't identify himself as a friend, but Mike guessed it since nobody else would be making a big deal about the Astros not resigning him. The guy then admitted he was a good friend.

When I first heard he got signed, I thought of that caller.

According to the Star Ledger, we also signed Wayne Franklin.

Quote:

NEW YORK -- The Yankees have signed two veterans as pitching insurance at Triple-A Columbus: right-hander starter Pete Munro and lefty reliever Wayne Franklin.

Munro, 29, was a candidate this spring for the Houston Astros rotation, but he was released March 16 after two spring appearances and a 9.00 ERA.

In parts of five seasons with Toronto and Houston, Munro is 13-19 with a 4.88 ERA. He was 4-7 with a 5.15 ERA in 21 games (19 starts) last year for the Astros, and started two games in the National League Championship Series against St. Louis (0-0, 9.00 ERA).

Franklin, 31, has pitched for Houston, Milwaukee and San Francisco, going 14-15 with a 5.47 ERA. He was released Wednesday by the Giants.
