Johnson waits on Mets

Johnson waits on Mets

Charles Johnson may be a fit for the New York Mets, who traded backup catcher Jason Phillips to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets expressed interest in Johnson during the offseason. Ramon Castro, signed to a minor-league deal, now is Mike Piazza's backup.

"I hope there is something there," said Johnson, hitting .235 with one home run. "I know I can help somebody."

The guy is just not a good defensive catcher anymore. The Mets need to have a backup to Piazza that can play stellar defense. That is not CJ.

i'd honestly rather have johnson than castro, i have a feeling once CJ is traded he wants to show people he's not done yet!!!

Don't know how he is gonna do that though being a backup for the first time in his life. He'd play 60 games at best here.

Bring him in. He's been a starter his entire career, he'll be adequate catching one or two games a week.

I don't think there's a difference between Johnson and Castro....might as well give him a try

i would much rather have johnson, as long as he is fine with backing up piazza. He still is a good receiver even if his arm is shot.

Better than being the third string catcher in Colorado.

No risk of Charles Johnson being brought up on rape charges in the middle of the season.

It had to be mentioned.
