No, he wasn't. Piazza wasn't going to start only 80 games, he wasn't going to start at 1b.

Apart from giving us a starter in Trax's absence, it also gives us insurance in case Zambrano gets hurt again. Phillips was playing well in ST though, so it may hurt more than one might think. If Piazza goes down, I'd rather have Wilson or Phillips behind the plate than Castro. But whatever.

los angeles was one of the top pitcher's parks in the league to pitch in, so leaving there can't do anything but hurt him. he seems like a guy that could give a few good starts against a team like phillie though, since he'd probably neutralize thome and abreu if he throws strikes. other than that, he's been garbage aside from his first few starts in the league

he's going from dodger stadium to shea stadium which isn't much of a difference, nobody expects ishii to be the next sid fernandez, all he has to do is be a solid 5th starter with an ERA in the mid 4's!!!

i highly doubt his numbers are going to be effected by moving from one pitcher's park to another, shea is still one of the worst hitter's parks in the league!!!

At the beginning of the year Shea is always a pitchers park, but it seems to even out as the season goes on. Unless Zambrano gets hurt, Ishii is probably only going to be needed till Trax is ready, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I think many would agree that Victor Zambrano and Kaz Ishii are VERY similar pitchers. Except for the not quite 2 year age difference and Ishii being a lefty, they are very similar. Funny how the Mets give up maybe the best prospect in baseball for one and a backup catcher for the other.

Some wounds don't heal. :crybaby: :crybaby:

He has as much chance as winning a CY as Ishii does. They are identical except for the lefty righty thing.

AND PLEASE point out the big difference.

To be fair, the Zambrano calamity was a Duquette doing with the urging of the absolutely moronic Wilpons. So far Minaya has yet to make any big mistakes. So I'd say things are looking up.

Listen very carefully:

Victor Zambrano will NOT win the NL Cy Young in the next two seasons.

I'm hoping he turns out to be a great bottom-of-the-rotation pitcher for us, but he's NOT going to be the best pitcher in the National League.

Exactly. And here are some stats comparing Zambrano and Ishii. Try to tell me they aren't very similar after this.

Zambrano - 495.7IP - 5.7IP per start
Ishii - 473IP - 5.5 IP per start

Zambrano - 294 BB
Ishii - 305 BB

Zambrano - 386 SO
Ishii - 382 SO

Zambrano - 1.31 SO/BB ratio
Ishii - 1.25 SO/BB ratio

Zambrano - .89 H/IP ratio
Ishii - .89 H/IP ratio

Zambrano - 55 HR allowed
Ishii - 57 HR allowed

There cousins.
