Good deal. Ishii will be a serviceable 5th starter, and Ramon Castro should o an OK job as the backup catcher.

Good deal for the Mets. Ishii at times will make you pull your hair out but he's better than Ginter, Seo ect...

i dont like this deal at all, ishii will not be a phillips above ginter. Phillips would of also be needed because of the amount of games piazza will play.

Huh? Ishii is definitely a .200 hitter better than Seo, Ginter.

In Ishii we are getting a slightly worse version of Al Leiter with all the BB's to back it up.

Phillips swing got long, hes probably a .255 hitter if he plays full time.

When did the Mets trade Paul Lo Duca?

Phillips was never an exceptional hitter in the minors, nor was he ever spectacular defensively.

i never spectacular, but he is good enough to be a defensive replacement

he was an okay hitter who just got too full of himself last year, where he tried to pull everything, if he hits stuff the other way he could hit 280 easily and he was doing this throughout spring training.

but throughout a full season his swing gets long, so the average drops, and Castro is supposedly better defensively.

castro is better defensivly but he looks like a f*cking rock and he cant hit for sh*t, plus he cant back up first.

im not mad at the trade i just feel it was pointless

Valent and Galaragga can both back up first and Mientkiewicz will play 140 gms anyway, so that shouldnt even be considered.

Hoping that Phillips comes out of the .210 range and goes up to .255-.260 thats not alotr better than Castro anyway.

You just dont like it cause he was your boy, I get that

LOL, first base shouldn't be a concern.....I highly doubt Phillips would've got much playing time with Galarraga in there, and then Valent like Doug said.

If anything, Phillips will be missed as a backup catcher, not a backup first baseman.

Dodgers want Heilman in addition to Phillips. Mets think that is too much. That is the only thing holding up the deal right now.

This is all I need to say:

From ROTOWORLD:
"Ishii would become the Mets' fifth starter, opening up a spot in the Los Angeles rotation for Scott Erickson."

Jeez, just give them Heilman. At this point in time I'm willing to give him away for a bucket of baseballs.

Might as well just give them Heilman. He's buried on our depth chart anyway

ya i know, but versatility never hurt anyone, if he becomes hot you will have to find a place for him and you sure as hell aint taking piazza awy from catching....

Tonight's Newsday:

Quote:

If the Mets are unable to complete a trade for Ishii, Redding will move to the forefront, with the Astros looking to alleviate their own logjam for the No. 5 spot. Redding, a 27-year-old righthander, has a 5.19 ERA in three exhibition appearances, including one start, with six strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.

The Mets were in discussions with the Nationals about their three candidates for the fifth spot -- John Patterson, Zach Day and Jon Rauch -- and expect Washington general manager Jim Bowden to pull the trigger on a trade shortly. Tony Armas Jr. also has been mentioned as a possibility.

I'd prefer any one of those three from Montreal over Ishii.

Keep in mind people, we are getting a younger, worse version of Al Leiter here. Nothing more. A 5 inning pitcher (110 pitch)that walks as much as he strikes out. Hell, also sounds like Zambrano.
