If the D-Rays would give the Mets anything of value Mianya should jump on it. I like Valent, but he's expendable with the presence of Diaz, Robinson, and Anderson.
anderson's not making the team, woodward is and looks like the mets are gonna keep valent and let galarraga go!!!
Don't get me wrong, I like Valent, but bench players are mostly interchangeable. If you can get anything of value for a player whose potential tops out at platoon player, you do it.
timo is right...bench players are easy to get...we have so many replacements avaliable. if we could do a package and get baez, sosa, or colume i would do it in a second.
the problem is the drays aren't going to give up baez that easily, doug get it through your small skull, valent has been playing the outfield but right now it's down to him and galarraga for the last bench spot, valent has no options so he can't be sent to the minors since he will more than likely not clear waivers! valent is young and has alot of pop in his bat, phillips is not even competing with castro for a job, he has it already, there's no reason to have the big cat, he's old and useless, valent will make the team and your boy andres will sipping pina colada's in venezuela!!!
It isn't between Valent and Galarraga. Both will make the team.
how's that, the mets are gonna take 12 pitchers up north, that leaves 5 bench spots: cairo woodward robinson phillips valent please both you and doug need to stop with this silly argument, i'm right and you guys are wrong!!!
They've said they will only take 11 pitchers.

is their a dominant lefty in the nl for gallaraga to stack up against? i can't think of any truly dominating lefties in the nl with johnson now gone. i guess gallaraga would come in handy for the subway series against johnson, against nl east rival pitchers like willis, wolf, and hampton, with an occassional matchup against mulder, oliver perez(oh yes, there's the dominating lefty), doug davis, and a few others. i assume mientkiewicz is looking at 135-140 starts?
he's still a pretty underrated guy, as he was in his prime. soft hands for a big man, not the most rangy, but gets the job done. i dont see why they would have to cut him.

Why would Galarraga not make the team?
he has been garbage hitting wise and his once good defense is not so good anymore

Danny Bautista - OF - TB
Devil Rays announced the retirement of outfielder Danny Bautista. Robby Alomar's retirement is surprising, but this is just baffling. Bautista is only 32 and the Rays were set to pay him $1.9 million to play regularly this year. We would have assumed retirement was the furthest thing from his mind. Obviously, something isn't completely right here. Maybe there's a health problem that he doesn't want revealed or perhaps this is even steroid related. The Rays may now give second looks to Joey Gathright and Jonny Gomes, both of whom were already sent to minor league camp. Mar. 19 - 1:47 pm et
Rotoworld
With this surprising news, this could be the precursor to a trade with the Mets. Baez for Valent.

I wonder what this does to Tampa's interest in Valent?

Alex Sanchez - OF - TB
Devil Rays signed outfielder Alex Sanchez to a one-year contract. Well, Danny Bautista tried to save the Rays from themselves, but we all should have known how well that'd work out. Sanchez almost certainly will start in the outfield initially and could hit second behind Carl Crawford. Since 's expected to eventually be replaced by Rocco Baldelli, he can't be penciled in for 500 at-bats. However, he'll probably get enough steals to be at least a $10-$12 player in AL-only leagues. So that he could retire in the middle of Spring Training? That's the definition of selfish, which you love to call Beltran for no reason.

bautista is a good player
He was never good and now he's no longer even a player.
not to butt in, but im still waiting on a response by this guy/girl after he said marlon byrd was average at best his rookie year on a yankee board thread. at least have the guts to admit you are wrong. it helps with credibilty. 303 avg and .363 obp with 11 sb in 12 attempts certainly isnt average to say the least unless you are a star already,
as far as valent goes, i saw him last year and he looks like he could be a solid player. perhaps a 270-20-85 guy in a good lineup. i dont think tampa will get you baez, but they could give you a decent minor leaguer

Was that me? If it was, I didn't respond because I haven't checked that thread after posting that, not because I'm afraid to admit I was wrong.
