Another option, which Piniella has already mentioned, is adding a productive left-handed hitter to the lineup. Among names that could come up in trade talks are Dan Johnson of the A's, Eric Valent of the Mets and Michael Tucker of the Giants.

If the D-Rays would give the Mets anything of value Mianya should jump on it. I like Valent, but he's expendable with the presence of Diaz, Robinson, and Anderson.

Don't get me wrong, I like Valent, but bench players are mostly interchangeable. If you can get anything of value for a player whose potential tops out at platoon player, you do it.

I hope Galarragga doesn't stay in favor of Valent. Quite pointless. Valent's season last year should mean something.

doug please, as of now galarraga isn't going to make the team, he's 1 for 15 and has played terrible defense at 1st, valent has proven he can play good defense at 1st and he has actually hit (at least better than galarraga) this spring, this will be the mets bench:
cairo woodward robinson phillips valent
there you go!!! :peace:

woodward phillips valent anderson/cairo (probably cairo) robinson (he is valuable).

Way to read another thing out of context.
I could care less one way or the other, but Valent is playing in the OF for a reason. Im just telling you what it is.
(btw, I did see Galarragga play a few weeks ago vs. LA he made a nice scoopon a DP so his defense cant be that bad)

Stats mean very little. In Spring Training, a lot of the decisions are based on what managers see during workouts, intrasquad games, etc.

your guys bench actually sounds pretty good. the yanks got no friggin depth. i'd take any of cairo, gallaraga, k. robinson, castro, or valent. valent was a previous first round pick, was he not? he's gotta still be in his twenties. when i saw him doing bp last year at shea, he was clearing the ball over the fence like no one else. he might still have upside. guys can still breakout in their twenties, especially previous first round picks with nice swings

Don't get me wrong, I like Valent, but bench players are mostly interchangeable. If you can get anything of value for a player whose potential tops out at platoon player, you do it.
timo is right...bench players are easy to get...we have so many replacements avaliable.
if we could do a package and get baez, sosa, or colume i would do it in a second.

Don't get me wrong, I like Valent, but bench players are mostly interchangeable. If you can get anything of value for a player whose potential tops out at platoon player, you do it.
timo is right...bench players are easy to get...we have so many replacements avaliable. if we could do a package and get baez, sosa, or colume i would do it in a second.
the problem is the drays aren't going to give up baez that easily, doug get it through your small skull, valent has been playing the outfield but right now it's down to him and galarraga for the last bench spot, valent has no options so he can't be sent to the minors since he will more than likely not clear waivers! valent is young and has alot of pop in his bat, phillips is not even competing with castro for a job, he has it already, there's no reason to have the big cat, he's old and useless, valent will make the team and your boy andres will sipping pina colada's in venezuela!!!

If the D-Rays would give the Mets anything of value Mianya should jump on it. I like Valent, but he's expendable with the presence of Diaz, Robinson, and Anderson.
anderson's not making the team, woodward is and looks like the mets are gonna keep valent and let galarraga go!!!

It isn't between Valent and Galarraga. Both will make the team.

how's that, the mets are gonna take 12 pitchers up north, that leaves 5 bench spots:
cairo woodward robinson phillips valent
please both you and doug need to stop with this silly argument, i'm right and you guys are wrong!!!
