who friggin cares!!! the point is still the same. i actually went on google, looking to find out why he went to the dodgers, but i didnt want to sift through all the sh*t. the point remains. and if you want to petty bicker, strawberry's last season with the mets was his lowest full season home run output since 1984. from the numbers, he really wasn't as good as advertised though, i must say. not a .300 hitter by no means, had some spotty years, like a .225 season in 1989. for some reason, i was under the assumption he was better than he really was |

7 consecutive years of 26 or more home runs in the 80s/early 90s. There were only a handful of guys who could do that. Plus Darryl would steal you 30 bases. He was one of the best 5 or 6 outfielders in baseball during that span. It's not a petty argument when it completely goes against your whole point. |

That was your point. But it is clear that Darryl was among baseball's elite players when they allowed him to get away. |

Zidan, don't let facts get in the way of your opinions. It may not be very impressive to you, in the steroids era, but no national league player hit more home runs than Darryl Strawberry during the years 1983-1990. Strawberry-252 Dale Murphy-250 Dawson-213 If you want to be generous, Mike Schmidt, a hall of famer known for his home run hitting, hit 259 between the years 1981 and 1988. But Strawman was the elite HR hitter of the NL from '83-'90. What more is there to say? |

By the way, in 1991, Darryl Strawberry was the highest paid player in major league baseball in the first year of his contract with the LA Dodgers. Not bad for a player with declining skills. |

it's not the homers, it's the piss poor average. it seems his normal year was what beltran did last year. im sorry, but en elite guy you should be getting an avg near .300, if not over. he seemed to regularly be in the 270s and 260s |

Darryl left because Frank Cashen did not want to spend big bucks for players. Darryl was also fed up because he felt the Mets were singling him out as a bad guy. What year was it that he tried to hit Keith Hernandez in spring training at some picture taking event? Didn’t the Mets get rid of Kevin Mitchell because they thought he was a bad influence on Darryl and Doc. Isn’t that funny? Keith Hernandez went into the clubhouse during game 6 of the WS because he could not bear to see the Redsox celebrating at Shea. He did watch it on TV. |
