MSG Sportsdesk just reported that Dwight Gooden has been arrested (yet again) for punching his ex-wife in the face. I think that just guaranteed him a promotion from George Steinbrenner. |

i believe the mets have a history of players playing cards, getting dressed and leaving before big playoff games are even over. at least the yankees team has handled itself with class over the years its won. f*ck doc godden. he was never an intergral part of a world series victory for the yanks like he was for the mets, and his presence led to us getting shitfield, instead of signing a better person and player in vlad the impaller. |

Don't forget Keith Hernandez drinking a beer in the clubhouse during Game 6 because he thought the Mets were done. :peace: |

:puke: I expect that all the aforementioned Met disgraces are now being considered for front office positions with the Yankees. Their resumes seem to be up to standards. |

Do you Skank fans find pleasure in these things? Fine, have your fun. But it speaks VOLUMES about the Yankees organization when they actually offer jobs to people like Gooden and Strawberry. At least the Mets canned these jokers after their problems. You people just reeled them back in for more. |

If you think giving second chances to drug addicts and woman abusers is a good thing, that's fine I guess. And it isn't just one offense and Steinbrenner's giving them a job. These guys have repeatedly broken the law and yet still manage to find a spot with the Yankees. That's something to be proud of. |

I'm not saying I'm proud. I am ashamed for him and embarrassed that he did what he did. But the Mets don't make a habit of doing this sort of thing. |

Strawman belongs in orange and blue. Coleman is a Cardinal, Saberhagan is a Royal, Bonilla is a Pirate... and the Yanks can keep Gooden. |

horrible logic. had those two clowns stayed consistant producers, met land would lick their balls every chance they could get. the problem with those two from a met standpoint was their skills deteroriated. the mets would and will take clowns, just as long as their are numbers to back it up |

Um no. The deterioration of their skills helped themselves to be run out of town. Did I say the Mets would've thrown them out if they were performing? No. Everyone knows when the Mets let them go they were anything but all-stars. The point is, the Yankees give these has-beens second, third, and fourth chances after numerous run-ins with the law. The Mets don't do that. |

well, maybe steinbrenner thinks he's god. i dont know. i dont even believe in second chances if the offense is worse enough. i just know the sporting world forgets based on production. darryl and doc would be mets for life had they kept doing their coke and throwing up 20-4 seasons and 35 homers. its nonsensical for anyone to state that someone those guys were ridded of because of a mythetical high moral standard. when it comes to sports, i dont see any moral organization. sad but true |

Wrong, in part, Zidan. If you recall, Darryl Strawberry was given a gigantic free agent contract by the Dodgers. The Dodgers signed Darryl Strawberry to a $20.25 million, five-year contract before the 1991 season. In his first and only full season with the team, Strawberry hit 28 home runs and knocked in 99. For 1991, he definitely put up big-time numbers. The Mets were shattered when Straw left. They didn't drop him. He bolted for the big free agent contract. |

For some reason I doubt that any team would keep a guy who gets arrested for assault and possession of drugs every week, even if they were putting up good stats. A team can't put up with someone like that for long, no matter how good they are. |

most def, but production would put a heavy burden of tolerance on it. im just saying, steinbrenner might go to the extreme with how he gives second, third, fourth, and so on chances, but its nothing the sporting world doesn't do. for once, id like to see a criminal justice pattern of players being thrown in jail for offenses, but we'll never see it |

so what? then doesnt that demonstrate that despite his problems the mets still wanted him? |

No, it demonstrates that despite his terrific production, the Mets were willing to let him leave for LA. As a baseball move, it destroyed the team, as everyone knew it would. But even though Straw was still producing at such a high level, the Mets would not match LA because everyone knew Darryl was bad news by then with off-field issues. Your claim that the Mets dropped him because of declining production is not supported by the history. |
