The Cubs, Diamondbacks and Pirates have expressed an interest in Aaron Heilman, whom the Mets are actively trying to move

Anyone want to bet that the day he gets traded to a place where he's given a fair chance will be the happiest day of his life? He may turn out to be a bust, but being rushed to the majors and struggling and then not being given a fair second chance is not the way a good organization deals with a top prospect.

He was anything but rushed. In fact, the Mets were too cautious with him! He was 25 years old going into the 2003 season, and they should have given him Jae Seo's rotation spot going into the season. Instead, they let him rot in the minors, which meant that he never got a chance to go into the season with a job and instead permanently carved him a role as a spot starter.

Just curious, when exactly was this chance after chance business? He got called up 2 years ago, and he obviously wasn't ready for whatever reason, perhaps overhype? Last year, he had a good preseason and outpitched Erickson and Seo, and yet didn't get a chance. Faltered big time in the minors, then woke up had a few more shaky spot starts, went down, and then came back and finished the season strong. Some pitchers take longer. I'd like to see him start a full season in some teams rotation before calling him a bust. Last year should have been the year. Now, if some other team wants him, I'd like to see what he can do. Who knows. Perhaps when he's old enough (35), he can come back.

he did not outpitch yates and erickson, stop with the lies, they both outpitched him, he was brought up 2 years ago and failed, he was brought up again at the end of last season and failed and now this year in spring training he is failing yet again, time for him to get the boot!!!

Lies? Check the stats. He didn't outpitch Yates, but he outpitched Erickson and Seo like I said. That spot was his. The Mets just decided to go with a veteran waste of space like they like to do. He finished the season strong too, highlighted by the start on short rest. It isn't an accident that other teams are interested in him. We don't need Heilman until Zammy gets hurt, but I think Ginter could fill that role. Trade him.

whats the great accomplishment about outpitching Scott Erickson?

Whether he got the rotation spot or not, we've seen plenty of hi to know his stuff (splitter and cutter that got him drafted) just isnt consisstent enough to be anything more than a 5th starter.

Yeah. It doesn't say much for Heilman if he was able to outpitch Erickson. :serious:

Last spring, I probably could've outpitched that washed-up waste of space.

Um. No. Erickson sucks, but he is a decent minor league calibre pitcher. Something you're not.

Um. No.

I was talking about Erickson. Even Justin could've outpitched him.

The only thing Erickson has going for him is his hot wife.

(and I was sort of exaggerating. I realize that neither me nor Justin could outpitch a major-leaguer, no matter how washed up he was. That pretty much goes for anyone on this board.)

Ptichers with Heilman's stuff are a dime a dozen and should be picked in the lower rounds. Some of them get command and become solid pitchers but most don't. The Mets went for Heilman because he could get college players out. He can also get some minor league players out. But his command is not good enough to consistenly get major league players out. Perhaps, in a coupld of years he will get that command but he doesn't have it now. If you keep him around for insurance he certainly won't develop that consistency sitting on ass and not pitching.
