god damn loopholes

victor zambrano will dominate the league with lowest era, lowest oba. In all other categories he shall be average or above average towards what is considered the best. All of this will happen on the new york mets in 2005 and in real life.

Don't worry King. We're going to trade him and Randy Johnson to the Sox for Mendoza anyway. ;)

Go Sox!

Yankees finalize deals with Glanville, Rolls and Voyles

January 28, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- Outfielder Doug Glanville, utilityman Damian Rolls and right-hander Brad Voyles were among 18 players who finalized minor league contracts with the New York Yankees on Friday.

Glanville would get a $550,000, one-year contract if he is added to the major league roster, while Rolls would receive $600,000 and Voyles $350,000.

Also agreeing to minor league deals were infielder Homer Bush; left-hander Danny Borrell; right-handers Aaron Small and Marc Valdes; infielders Russ Johnson and Caonabo Cosme; outfielders Mike Vento, Noah Hall and Colin Porter; and catchers David Parrish, Joe Depastino, Ryan Hankins, Irwil Rojas, Omir Santos and Jon-Mark Sprowl.

Voyles stats - he stinks

What's his story these days? He was ranked highly a year or two ago.

He had surgery 2 years ago or last year, right?

I think he had the surgery in '03 and pitched in the minors at the end of last year. See his stats at the link.

It was probably the easiest spot to get him innings.

Brad Voyles - R - Yankees

Yankees signed RHP Brad Voyles to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Voyles stint in Japan was incredibly short, as he had a 24.30 ERA in 3 1/3 innings for the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks. The former Royal isn't going to win a spot in the Yankee pen, but he will be a nice arm to have around in Triple-A. Jan. 28 - 5:38 pm et

Marc Valdes - R - Yankees

Yankees signed RHP Marc Valdes to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Valdes is back in the U.S. after posting a 3.15 ERA as a reliever in Japan the last three years. The 33-year-old could be decent bullpen insurance for the Yankees. He'll begin the year in Triple-A. Jan. 28 - 5:36 pm et

Aaron Small - R - Yankees

Yankees signed RHP Aaron Small to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Small has a 5.49 ERA in 218 innings as a major leaguer, but just 16 2/3 of those innings have come since 1998. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Columbus. Jan. 28 - 5:33 pm et

Danny Borrell - S - Yankees

Yankees re-signed LHP Danny Borrell to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Borrell, still probably one of the Yankees' better pitching prospects, returned last July after shoulder surgery cost him more than a year. He'll probably spend most of this year at Triple-A Columbus. Jan. 28 - 5:32 pm et

Joe Depastino - C - Yankees

Yankees signed catchers Joe Depastino, Ryan Hankins, David Parrish, Irwil Rojas, Omar Santos and Jon-Mark Sprowl to a minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
With Dioner Navarro gone, either Depastino, Hankins or Parrish apparently will serve as the Yankees' emergency catcher. Sprowl, who is being re-signed, is the most interesting player here, but his on-base skills still might not get him to the majors. Jan. 28 - 5:29 pm et

Homer Bush - 2B - Yankees

Yankees re-signed second baseman Homer Bush to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Making a comeback after sitting out a year with a hip injury, Bush hit .291/.327/.380 in 63 games for Triple-A Columbus last season. He's probably through as a useful player. Jan. 28 - 5:26 pm et

Russ Johnson - 3B - Yankees

Yankees signed infielder Russ Johnson to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Johnson, who played from the Astros and Rays from 1997-2002, hit .294/.396/.496 for Triple-A Iowa last season. He's lost something defensively, so he's not quite the useful utilityman he once was. Still, he'd probably help the Yankees as a second baseman against lefties if given a chance. It would take an injury to get him on the Opening Day roster. Jan. 28 - 5:23 pm et

Noah Hall - OF - Yankees

Yankees signed outfielder Noah Hall to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Hall looked like something of a sleeper to make the Jays last spring, but he was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse and ended up missing much of the year. He still might have a future as a reserve outfielder, but he'll play for Triple-A Columbus this year. Jan. 28 - 5:18 pm et

Colin Porter - OF - Yankees

Yankees signed outfielder Colin Porter to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Porter, 29, appeared in the majors with the Astros and Cardinals the last two years, hitting .254/.265/.313 in 67 AB. He wouldn't really be any worse of a bench option than someone like Timo Perez, but he'll spend another year in Triple-A this season. Jan. 28 - 5:12 pm et

Mike Vento - OF - Yankees

Yankees re-signed outfielder Mike Vento to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Vento spent most of last year on the Yankees' 40-man roster even though he was never really a prospect. The 26-year-old hit .275/.333/.441 for Triple-A Columbus. He's not going to be a candidate for a spot on the Yankee bench. Jan. 28 - 5:08 pm et
