From Newsday:

The Yankees and Rey Sanchez are closing in on one-year, $600,000 contract. Sanchez, 37, who played for the Yankees in 1997, replaces Enrique Wilson as the primary utilityman. Sanchez batted .246 with two home runs and 26 RBIs in 91 games for the Devil Rays last season.

In 2003, Sanchez played for the Mets and caused controversy when he reportedly was seen getting a haircut from Armando Benitez in the clubhouse during a game.

 at this potential signing.

And a   for the haircut. I didn't know it was Armando who was trimming him. That's a joke in itself but I'm not gonna say it.

Sanchez will fine as a utility guy. He did a good job here the first time. The problem with you bozos in Flushing is that you wanted him as a regular player.

I wonder if the joke has anything to do with Mando being a big black man that needs hugs

Even though I pointed out awhile back the Yankees should sign UTIL IF's and his name did come up. Rey Sanchez could only be here for spring training or one full season with the Yankees.

They could have signed Dave Berg.

I wish they had signed Geoff Blum. That would've been a great move.

There is one problem. He played a half a season in AAA and he is probably not ready yet. I'll take my chances with experience, even though Sanchez is getting older.

Yeah, they'll ruin his development so he could be a utility player. Glad you're not GM.

My thoughts exactly. Last thing I want is Cano sitting on the bench for most of the year, or even just going into the big leagues and destroying his confidence because he's getting booed left and right for hitting .170

Not a terrible signing.

Agreed, and this is a huge upgrade over "cool cat" Wilson. <_<

You know how Matty feels on the subject of a utility guy.

Where's our boy at? :no1:

He still hasn't got over the Boston loss. :watery:

A part me will never got over it either.

I can live with this. As long as he is ready to play, if he hasn't played for a long time.

It's good to have a veteran utility player. I was starting to think they would go into the season with either Homer Bush or a Clipper. If everything goes well Sanchez will hardly ever play. :agent:

I think it's a smart signing. He can play both MI positions well, and has starting experience which is important if someone gets injured.
