Before I say anyone, Bernie is one of my favorite players, and he will always be the man in my eyes and heart. He probably deserves to have his number retired and it's been a thrill to watch the guy play. However, it's probably obvious that this is the last year that he'll be seeing playing time in the centerfield. I can live with it for another year, b/c we probably improved our pitching by a lot, but in some games, he can be a liability out there. But again, I'll be able to live with it, and enjoy watching him in his last days out there.

I say this, b/c apparently, guys like Tori Hunter are free agents next year, and I think it is in our absolute best interest to go after a guy like that. He should definitely be a lot cheaper than what Beltran would have cost.

On to Beltran:
I know he's an extremely talented player and his defense is sick, but the money he commanded was just ridiculous. We can't just throw money out at these players anymore, like Giambi, and not live with the consequences. What if he doesn't live up to expectations. I think this would have been a risk not worth taking, and I'm glad we didn't got that way.

Besides losing Cairo and El Dugue (Again) I think this has been one of our best off seasons, and I look foward to the regular season for the first time in awhile. It usually takes me time to get excited for baseball.

It's still a lot of money.

And I think you're wrong on Hunter. He signed a 4 year contract before the 2003 season.
