Rodriguez to Schilling: Yankees motivated to `beat him up'

Quote:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Even in the dead of winter, Alex Rodriguez and Curt Schilling are still going at it.

``I just hope he continues to talk about me and my teammates,'' the New York Yankees third baseman said Friday. ``It's going to give us great motivation to beat him up in the future.''

Schilling called it a ``bush-league play'' after Rodriguez was called out for interference in Game 6 of the AL championship series last October. A-Rod, trying to beat out an infield dribbler, slapped the ball away from pitcher Bronson Arroyo near first base.

``To me it was just odd, because I mean we beat him a couple of times during the year and he was crying on the bench,'' Rodriguez said of Schilling. ``And then he lost Game 1 and he wouldn't talk or anything. And obviously, he wins Game 6 and then he's still talking 'till today. So it's just something we as players have been accustomed to. But it's something I'm not worried about.''

Schilling, reached on a cell phone Friday, said Rodriguez had his facts wrong.

``It's not true. I talked after Game 1,'' Schilling said. ``I don't care what Alex says. When someone says that, you consider the source.''

He also denied shedding tears in the dugout.

``I was upset, but I wasn't crying on the bench,'' Schilling said.

Pitching on an ankle tendon held in place by suture, Schilling won Game 6 and Boston then became the first major league team to win a best-of-seven series after trailing 3-0. He then won Game 2 of the World Series, helping Boston sweep St. Louis for its first Series title since 1918.

He wasn't upset by the remarks A-Rod made during a telephone conference call Friday.

``That Alex Rodriguez doesn't like me? Not at all,'' Schilling said.

A-Rod needs to learn to shut his f*cking mouth. He said crap about Jeter four years ago in a ridiculous SI article, only to come to NY and prove what a complete loser he is. Until he proves to me he can handle the pressure of being a Yankee, I want him to just shut up. Schilling has already backed up himself by winning two WS and helping Boston beat us for the first time in 86 years. All A-Rod did was fail to come through in the clutch when we needed him most.

I think its great that he actually said something. Yes, he did fail in key spots, and even though it doesn't excuse him, it was only his first year.

Anyway, Curt Schilling is the most opinionated player in baseball. He doesn't shut up. The Yanks need someone to say something on thier behalf. Its not necessary, but I'm tired of hearing Schilling talk about the Yankees like that.

To make it simple, its a refreshing change for the Yankees to have someone that says something instead of everyone being all professional like Jeter.

A-Rod is not the guy we need speaking for us though. His disappointing play on the field showed us all we need to know about him.

How about he just goes out there and comes through in the clutch rather than hitting soft little dribblers back to the pitcher? If he can back himself up, he can talk all he wants. But I didn't see him do anything last season that he should be saying anything. Hell, he's one of the big reasons, along with Brown, Vazquez and a slew of other guys, we lost to Boston for the first time in 86 years. Win something, then talk.

I'm backing him but he's NO Yankee spokesman. He might be the national spokesman for the PBAA (Pool Boy Associaton of America) but that's about it. :peace:

Kudos to A-Rod (coodies to Schilling). I have no problem with him telling Schilling, in a round about manner, to shut the f*ck up. You go pool boy!

No, let him talk now. Schilling has no right to talk back at the Yankees. In 2001, he left game 7 losing, in 2004 he was getting rocked by us until game 6. A-Rod said what had to be said. And so what if A-Rod didnt have a great year? At least he has proven that he isnt gonna allow some old nerd talk to us like we were his bitches. I'm all for A-Rod getting motivated to destroy the Sox next year.

I'm all for A-Rod actually going out there and destroying Boston too. But he didn't do it last year. I'm not going to say he's not motivated. But to talk about kicking somebody's ass then going out there and actually doing it are two different things. He's got to get it right this year, he was a major disappointment in his first season with us as far as I'm concerned.

First of all, I don't really think he had a dissapointing season last year. He played like crap in that series against Boston, but so did every other Yankee. His BA might have been under par, but he was still huge on defense. However, he still didn't play great overall, and hopefully, that changed this season.

As for his talking, I could care less about it. I never was a big fan of it, by anyone. Let your play do the talking.

Rodriguez to Schilling: Yankees motivated to `beat him up'

I completely agree with ARod. Every swinging Yankee must make Schilling's life miserable this season. Go ARod. Nothing like a renewal of the rivarly too. If ARod has just one year like he had in Texas, watchout Red Sox.

Schilling has a big mouth no doubt, but the Arod play he was talking about was absolutely bush league. if it had been done by a marginal player, we would have been reading the next day about how Torre had a talk with the person and gave him the obligatory "son...we dont do that kind of thing on the Yankees" speech

This is good stuff though. It's what makes baseball and all sports fun......plus it give us something to talk about

I never saw Schill cry on the bench either. Why would he cry? He's beaten you guys 2 times now hasnt he??

so is everyone ready for the foot of snow NJ is supposed to get?

he really was wasnt he?? I absolutely expected more out of Arod. I'm sure every Yankee fan did too. I'm betting he'll be much better this year now that he's comfortable. It shouldnt take a guy of his stature a year to get comfortable, but there is no other way to explain his lower than normal performamce

Good for A-Rod. It shows he has some fire in him.

That's exactly what I was thinking. That's why I voted for you in a couple categories.

All this tough talk won't mean sh*t if he's hitting .220 w/ RISP and choking in big spots, but I have no problem with him talking. Schilling (who I don't hate) has been bad mouthing A-Rod since the chop. "Derek Jeter would never do that. All the real Yankees are classy." This shows that Pool Boy has a nut or two and he wants to fight back. I'd rather it be this than him looking like a dejected bitch with his c*ck tucked between his legs. He's one of the few Yankees who isn't soft or hasn't been softened by Torre's softness. How many others would have cursed at that fueg Arroyo or threatened The Masked ©unt? Do your thing Alejandro. I'll be on his ass if he's stinking, but that won't be for another 2 months. I'll take this now.
