Oakland outfielder Eric Byrnes, 28, who is arbitration eligible and due a big bump from his $328,000 salary in 2004, could be available in a trade from the cost-cutting A’s who have already dumped ace pitchers Tim Hudson and Mark Mulder. The speedy leadoff hitters has a good bat (.283 last year) with speed (17 steals) and power (20 home runs), but is prone to the strikeout (117 times ).

One Arizona official called him a "run through the wall kind of guy’’ who would look good at the top of the D-Backs’ lineup.

Oakland picked up outfielder and Bay Area native Charles Thomas, 25, from Atlanta in the Hudson deal, so moving Byrnes would open a spot as well as save payroll.

byrnes or kotsay  would be great 4th outfielders.

Although the Marlins like Luis Castillo and would be happy to keep him, a Marlins insider said one reason they re-signed Damion Easley was to give them the option of trading Castillo and his $4.5 million salary. If the Marlins can't sign Carlos Delgado, their free-agent options will be limited to much cheaper role players such as Ben Grieve, Tony Clark and Brad Fullmer.

we dont really have room for catillo, but if there looking to save money for delgado, we could take juan off there hands since he's a f/a after the season anyway and they might not be able to resign him. i think they need a closer, send them gordon and pay most of his money. :D

I'd be very interested in Castillo. He leads off and plays 2B, while Wommack becomes the utility fu<ker.

I'd take Byrnes or Kotsay in a heartbeat if the deal is right.
