When I was thinking of all the possible scenarios of how we could address the QB situation last season, I had considered that we sign Billy Volek to groom as our starter, since he'd cost less than signing a first round QB, and use our first round pick on Roy Williams. Volek really had the look of an NFL QB last year when I watched him tear apart Buffalo's pretty solid D. Plus, he could scramble, which would help with our lackluster offensive line coming into this year. Now, I'm not nearly ready to give on Eli, and I do think he's shown much better progress the last few games, but I couldn't help but use that age old what if proposition on that. |

if its any consolation, Volek is a mobile Kerry Collins, he doesnt handle pressure well at all. Plus he would never have signed here. He turned down 2 starting jobs to back up McNair last season |

He played really well in those 2 games last season but I never considered him. I figured that he was just doing enough in that system to look good. Everything seemed to work for the Titans QBs last year. But I don't like getting backups off other teams and hoping that they get the job done for us. Miami knows this. |

Yeah, it was like Plan E of what I considered we should do. I think Volek is good enough to be a starter, but there's always questions of signing other teams backups, Rob Johnson, Vinny Testaverde, and AJ Feeley come to mind. I'm just really angered by the fact that San Diego had no leverage at all, especially after Eli threatened a long holdout, and we still gave them everything they could have wanted, including a top pick in this coming draft when we have so many friggin holes to fill. You know San Diego wasn't going to give Eli away, but we could have forced the issue a little better than giving up as much as we did. |

In the Super Bowl, he went up against one of the greatest defenses of all time (I think statistically they were the greatest). I can forgive him for that. Even a decent game out of him and we would have still lost as Jason Sehorn let "Trent Dilfer to Brandon Stokely" become Montana to Rice. You can't expect your offense to put up 38 points on a defense like that. Its the other 20 games where Collins made me wanna stab someone that I won't forget. |
