Paul Schwartz - Which Giants May Be Gone

Who stays and who goes? It's a complex riddle, as each player must also be viewed as a contract. When left tackle Luke Petitgout completed a miserable game by committing a false start penalty at a critical juncture in a 23-22 loss in Cincinnati, it must have been tempting to toss the remote control in the air and shout "Get rid of him, now!" Yet there are few clean breaks in the salary cap era. Cutting Petitgout, still the team's best tackle, would cost the Giants $5.54 million on their 2005 cap and then they'd still need to find and pay a replacement.

Yeah, dumbass Maddog was saying how Petitgout was gone on Monday without even thinking of the cap fallout.

My proposed idea is just to take one massive cap hit by cutting pretty much everyone. Then, by 2006 we'll have plenty of money to get free agents.

i didnt realize how little we are paying allen, we need to keep him or trade him like the article said, we might package him for a 1st rounder in the 20's

remember you can spread the payment out if you want so the hits on Williams and Hilliard could be diced in half.

Id consider cutting Green. He's a good player, but its a small cap hit. LB coming off a serious reoccuring knee injury....

If someone is stupid enough to give up a 1st rounder for Allen, PLEASE make the deal. My fear is that the Giants will end up giving him an extension that's overpaid ala Petitgout and Williams.

i hope not, but it wont be allen just for a 1st rounder we would probably have to give up a pick, would you guys do allen and our 3rd round pick for a 1st rounder?

It would depend on how high that 1st rounder is. And I don't think that anyone with a pick north of 20 would be dumb enough to part with it for Will Allen.

I'm also not sure about us giving up the 3rd. We have holes to fill and I don't think that this is a good draft. If we got into the 1st, who is there? That gamebreaking receiver who would step in and be our #1 isn't going to be there. We all agree that we want a veteran LT. From the draft, we should looking to find a middle linebacker and add depth. Let's see if No Neck can work some more late pick magic.

I do think that Allen will be locked up. Peterson was resigned for about $20M and this organization values Allen more. He might just get a "Luke Pettitgout/Shaun Williams".

after some thought we shouldnt move allen on draft day only because it would cut in on the free agent money we need for a wr.

That thing that lets blood flow to my brain might pop if we trade our 3rd or 4th rd pick. It wouldnt make any sense bc/ if would leave us with 2 other picks in the entire draft.

Theres not alot of grat talent in the draft so we should be drafting for depth, those picks are gonna be important.

If we tried to move up past 27th or so what would be there?

WR: Chris Henry maybe, but he aint worth the gamble
MLB: no MLB should go in the 1st rd other than Channing Crowder A if he goes in, and B. if someone gets hard for him

*Only way in hell id trade up significantly: DeAngelo Williams broke his leg in the bowl game, if hes around in the early twenties for some silly reason then id do it bc/ hes f*ckin nasty
