Yeah im sure this is gonna be long so if you cant read long stuff dont waste your time. The more we lose the more it bothers me and the more I go into detail on why we're such f*ck ups. So thats my little disclaimer. Since wilson hasnt practiced all week he's not gonna be 100% so im just gonna assu,me he wont play along with O'Hara and Green (who will probably only play on a limited basis if he does) Offense: With Coleman, Jasper, Brooking and the fact that they shouldnt have any respect for our pass protection its gonna be difficult to run the ball. Colemna migh tbe a litttle banged up from an injury, even if he doesnt play they'er just to good to conisstently run on. Especially the way they blitz from that front 7. There are a couple of things we can do to get some balance going: -vs. Arizona we ran a 4 wide collapse draw (the Tackles and Guards collapse and let everything up field). A pursuit defense like this might have problems with that opposed to the power lead that they will stop all day. -More misdirection off the 2 TE set. 8 out of 10 when the TE comes across the formation thats where the run is going. Every so often they'll run a counter trey to the backside of the formation. We have to do alot more of that. Its has to be 5 out of 10 instead of 8 out of 10. Hopefully adding that to the basic power lead will be enough to sustain a respectable running game. They're going to do everything they can to make Manning throw 30-35 times and beat them. I wouldnt expect more than 20 carries/75 yds from Tiki if they load up like they should. Now, the thing that gives us a chance is Manning can get the ball downfield. Thats why we've been so pitful the last month or so. We've been playing in a 12 yard box basically. Even if they stop the run (which I expect) this isnt an automatic loss. They are a pursuit defense. They get to the ball just like we do. But they are less complex. Most of their blitzes come from the front 7 and it leaves man (our a soft zone) to the outside. The first priority early in the game has to be to get Manning to chill the f*ck out. Basic rule of football against a rookie QB in his first game is blitz. And they are going to blitz for 1,000 different reasons. Mostly they're good at it and we're bad at stopping it. Period. So we have to make sure that he doesnt make an early mistake. How do we do this? Warner ignored ALOT of designed quick out routes in favor of a big play last week. Thats the type of thing that will get Manning settled in. Spread the field and just drop a 3 yd out to the slot WR. A few quick slants and slip screens to Barber and Hilliard. Once he is comfortable (and when that is is a judgment call, but its no later than the last 3 mins of the 1st qtr). then we can open up a little bit. I dont mean open up like "waiting for routes to develop" we've seen that that sh*t just doesnt work out. He can make thorws that Warner cant. Aaron Beasley is gonna be matched up on Toomer and we picked on him last year vs. NYJ. As soon as Manning is comfortable throw Toomer a go route. Split Shockey out and get him downfield on a fade, post or corner. We cant keep playing in this 12 yd box. Get Manning comfortable with quick passes mix in the run and just try to get them a little bit off balance. As soon as they get a little bit off balance and they realize they wont get 15 sacks, as Lee Corso says, "thats when you go to the air my firend". Now im gonna write this next part in big bold letters in case you missed it. If we keep playing in our little 12 yard box and dont throw the ball downfield we're f*cked. Please dont give me any sh*t about how he's not gonna have time to get it downfield. That HAS TO BE Coughlin's first agenda, there are ways to off-set the blitz and get Eli comfortable and thats the first thing we have to do and it will open everything else up. Defense: We have the players to contain Michael Vick. The catch 22 is Warrick Dunn and TJ Duckett might go insane. It starts with Allen and Peterson on the outside and whoever starts at SS. They have to get the job done in man coverage so we can use different spies. The good thing about having Torbor, Umenyiora, Emmons, Lewis, hopefully Green, Deloatch (hopefully Wilson) is we can do alot of different things. Just like with the Eagles we have to play to their offensive set. More specifically Alge Crumpler and Warrick Dunn. Emmons has to blanket Crumpler and Lewis and DeLoatch have to share reponsibility for whoever is in the backfield. Man coverage all around, thats the most effective way to contain Vick. If we play a rolled zone he'll tear it apart bc/ hge can bring the LB's up and dump it over them. We have to play man coverage. Id expect them to play alot of 2RB/TE sets which would leave 2-3 WR's on the field for most of the game. I have confidence in Peterson to cover White or Jenkins. Allen better not f*ck up with Price. In any case, we have to play to what they show us and audible in and out of plays. Their offense improvises all the time. We have to improvise. I think we can do this mostly bc/ we have a fast safety and we're fast on the edges. On any given play we have to be able to hold containment to one side Whether it be with Emmons, Green, Umenyiora or Torbor we have to hold containment to one side and blitz the opposite. Meaning lets say they lineup in a normal I with Crumpler on the right. The LB that is not responsible for a WR (whether its Lewis or Green/Greisen on this given play) has to hold containment to that side and we either read blitz (once you see a back stay in) or cover and make him pass. This way the easiest way for them to make a play is to roll all the way across the formation. If he can stay alive dragging across the formation long enough to take off we have to give it to him And hope for the best. Every defense has a flaw and that would be it. A way to make this more difficult for them 1. Bc/ he isnt the smartest QB 2. Bc/ it makes it more difficult to run. As many 3-4 Sets as possible. This leaves the edge as an OLB instead of a DE it makes containment alot easier and it makes running the ball for them more difficult because the OLB doesnt have that pause. Mixing in the 34 front will be the key to our success. Let me write this in big bold letters so no one missies it. If we dont mix up our front 7 and our spies we will lose Make them beat us with Vick's arm and Dunn's legs |
