A Mets lineup with Sosa would mean that four of the top six hitters in the lineup may well include Jose Reyes, Kazuo Matsui, Sosa and Mike Cameron -- four players who combined for 404 strikeouts in 1,651 at-bats in 2004, or about one for every four at-bats. And those four players combined for 158 walks. You might beat up Colorado's No. 4 starter with that kind of lineup, but you cannot possibly beat good pitching with that many strikeouts; the Mets saw this in 2002.

I thougt jose didnt strike out much.

I didn't know the numbers but I knew that the last thing your team needs is someone who strikes out 120+ times. Watching a lineup that strikes out a lot is torture and the Mets need players who can make consistent contact. I said the same thing about the Yankees when someone mentioned Soriano coming back. In a good lineup, you don't want to have any more than 2 guys who will strike out over 100 times.

ET don't believe everything you read, reyes doesn't K alot, he's only K'ed 67 times in 494 at bat's so relax, also i think cameron will be batting 7th or 8th in the lineup next season so that whole top 6 hitters thing is bullsh*t!!!

Yeah the Reyes thing was bullsh*t. I think what they were trying to say is that Jose doesnt walk much.

If Jose wants to re-establish himself as an elite young player then he better make contact. As long as Reyes hits .330, he doesnt have to walk because he'll already get on base 33% of the time just from hitting. This year though, when he came up, Reyes it about .260, which led to a VERY low OBP. As a guy who is supposedly a leadoff hitter, he'll need to be about .350 at the very least. I personally feel Matsui would be a better leadoff hitter, he gets on base more.

i agree about reyes but disagree about matsui, reyes is like jeter, he isn't really a leadoff hitter but the mets have no one besides him that can hit at the top of the order! matsui IMO is better suited batting 2nd, he's a better situational hitter then reyes, if you notice last season when the lineup was clicking for a short while kaz would move runners over and play smart baseball (perfect for a #2 hitter), i think him and reyes are fine batting 1st and 2nd in the lineup!!!

How is Reyes like Jeter? Jeter has a career OBP of .385.

in the sense that they both aren't really leadoff hitters but they are batting leadoff cause their teams have no better hitters to bat in that spot!!! :peace:
