Cork Man & Nutcase On Mets Radar

Quote:

Just before Omar Minaya left the GM meetings Friday, he mentioned how the Mets would have a baseball operations meeting today.

"We'll review everything from the GM meetings," Minaya said, "and then we'll say, 'OK, guys, let's focus. This is where we are.' "

And where the Mets are is getting pretty intriguing, as they continue to be one of the more active teams in the game.

On the trade front, the Mets are looking at Sammy Sosa and Jose Guillen. On the free-agent front, they've expressed interest in Scott Boras' stable of stars — Carlos Beltran, Magglio Ordonez, JD Drew, etc. — and figure to get into the Carlos Delgado mix as well. And on their own front, they need to figure out what they're going to do with Al Leiter and Kris Benson and organize their coaching staff.

Rumblings about an eventual Sosa-to-the-Mets deal have been reported since early October, and they only increased when the Mets and Cubs spoke about Sosa multiple times at the GM meetings. At this point, the belief about an eventual trade for Cliff Floyd has never been stronger.

You know the more and more I hear about this deal, the more I believe it will happen. Trades like this just get me aggravated. But if Sosa produces all will be forgotten so I give in let Sosa come over here. I want to see what he has left before I tear him to shreds.

I'm not sure how two me first players would fit in here, but they'd still both be upgrades I guess.

It's the Cicago Cubs official website. They aren't going to say anything else.
