aight if i were gm i would do this:

STARTING PITCHING
OPTION A

Resign Leiter
Resign Benson

Rotation
(in no particular order except trachs)
zammy
glav
benson
leiter
trachs

OPTION B

Resign Benson
Get rid of Leiter
Sign no one, ya you heard me, there are no real good pitchers available at a good price, pedro is over the hill, pavano doesnt wanna come here and is a one hit wonder anyway

Rotation
zammy
glav
benson
trachs
seo/heilman/petit (give him a chance in st)

RELIEF PITCHING
OPTION A

Resign Dejean
Keep Fortunato up, he has really shown me something

so....

L - Set up - Stanton
R - Set up - Dejean
Third set up guy - Fortunato
Closer - Looper

OPTION B

Sign Rheal Cormier to a three year deal, a little risky but he will be our lefty setup man once we get rid of stanton
Resign Dejean, but if you cant it will be fine

L - Set up - Rheal Cormier
R - Set up - Dejean (if we cant sign him then put fortunato in there, officially but use stanton in that role even though he is lefty he is good against righties), maybe even strickland :dunno:
Third man - Stanton
Closer - Looper

Now on to the real stuff
HITTERS
OPTION A [/I}

sign mags, i have my doubt about his health but still....
trade floyd to al team
make piazza's permenant position 1st
resign hidalgo

so lineup will look like this:

2b - matsui
ss - reyes
3b - Wright
Rf - Mags
1st - Piazza
Cf - Cameron
LF - Diaz
C - Phillips

I dont like the idea of having an all righty middle of the lineup but i could live with it.

IF BURNITZ WILL BECOME AVAILABLE SIGN HIM AND PUT HIM IN LEFT BATTING 6TH.

OPTION B

Trade for Helton or Konerko
Trade Piazza in a three way deal involving jason kendell, pirates get someone from third a.l. team, a.l. team gets piazza, mets get kendall. Try to move kendall to LF or RF if it dont work then he will just catch.

2b - Matsui
ss - reyes
LF - Kendall
1b - Helton
3b - Wright
Cf - Cameron
Rf - Hidalgo
C - Phillips

----------------------------------------------------------

well thats it any combination of the above would make me pretty happy

also didnt spend too much time on it so there may be flaws.

Bowwow, the Mets would finish 4th again if they entered the season with that roster. The defense would be terrible again, the starting pitching would be weak and the bullpen would be even weaker.

jason Phillips struggled to hit .200 last year yet you're going to hand him the starting job?

Like I've said before many times......if the Mets were to trade Piazza, they need to acquire a good starting catcher either in the Piazza deal, or from another team in a seperate deal.

I don't want Phillips and/or Wilson catching the entire season. Even if Piazza is going to be moved permanently to 1b, I still want a solid catcher in the lineup. And no, Wilson and/or Phillips do not qualify as solid catchers, in my eyes.

Some of you are forgetting a kid by the name of Mike Jacobs that the mets have in their farm system. Injuries have held him up for the past couple of seasons but he was pretty good in the minors. If Phillips doesn't shape up in spring training it might be wise to give this kid a shot.

jacobs is a good offensive catcher but i wouldn't count on him next season, if phillips does suck next season we'll be seeing more vance wilson then anybody!!! :no1:

Although Vance isn't a bad option I still wouldn't want to start him for 120 plus games a year

No, they aren't. And if they do, it will be a failed offseason.

The Mets have already said Piazza will play catcher!

Mike Jacobs is a worthless scrub, players were constantly moving ahead of him on the "Farm system depth chart" even before he got injured, he will be in AAA until he is 40
