New Outfield Shift

Quote:

Even during their most recent peak years, when they thrived under Bobby Valentine, the Mets competed with an underwhelming outfield -- and that hasn't changed dramatically in the more recent downturn.

Here at the general managers' meetings, Omar Minaya has been working diligently to upgrade his outfield. While marketing his own leftfielder Cliff Floyd and continuing to talk with the Cubs about Sammy Sosa, he has also discussed another player who concluded his 2004 season in controversial fashion: Anaheim's Jose Guillen.

Minaya and his fellow Mets executives also met yesterday with agent Scott Boras, who represents free-agent outfielders Carlos Beltran, Magglio Ordoñez and J.D. Drew. Starting today, teams can make offers to other clubs' free agents.

The Mets also held a second conversation with the Texas Rangers, who want to trade Alfonso Soriano for Jose Reyes, with Soriano playing rightfield for the Mets.

The Mets have also pitched a Mike Piazza-for-Shawn Green trade to the Dodgers, and some officials from other clubs have asserted that the Mets, Dodgers and Cubs have held three-way discussions for a trade that would involve Piazza, Green and Sosa.

Such a deal would be extremely complicated, given that all three players can block a trade and would probably demand compensation in return for waiving their vetoes. If Sosa is traded, an $18-million option for 2006 would kick in, and that is deterring clubs from pursuing the slugger in decline.

Justin here is an idea. Instead of spamming the Mets board with 1000 different articles in 1000 different threads. Why not put links to the articles you find, in ONE thread.

You post 1000 different articles an hour, most of them on the same topic. Dont worry, you'll always have the most posts on this board :peace:

hey i just post the articles and hope everyone talks about them and lately that hasn't been happening, i'm just trying to start conversation, right now the only way this board gets going is if amit or one of the other yankee posters comes over here and disagrees about something that i or one of the other met fans have posted and that's a problem! this forum needs more fans and more opinions, looks like i'm going to have to go recruiting again!!!
