Give me a break. This is nothing more than George looking for something to take his frustration out on other than his coaching staff. |

He's a very good hitting coach. The only reason he was fired was to make room for Yankee great Donnie. He would be a nice hitting coach though. Can defenitly help. |

He sucked as a hitting coach! The Yankees should be begging the Mets to take him. |

No, he was a terrible hitting coach. The reason he was fired was because he sucked. |

We don't know if he was a terrible hitting coach. The problem in '03 was the Yankees not being able to hit with runners in scoring position and Giambi having a bad season. The problem in '04 was the Yankees not being able to hit with runners in scoring position and Giambi knocking on heaven's (maybe) door. |

What are you talking about? A lot of the guys said Mattingly helped them, nobody said sh*t about Rick Down. He sucked and that's why he was fired, nobody liked his ass. Go ahead and hire him, I'm sure you'll be all over him at the start just like Art Howe! Rick Down!!       |

oh donnie helped them huh, so mvp arod needs help, sheffield needs help, jeter, bernie, matsui, posada, yeah i'm sure alot of those guys needed help, a batting coach isn't needed for that team, maybe a choke coach is needed for arod, shef and matsui in the playoffs but that's it!!! |

WOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only a tool like you would say something like that, hey timo THINK before you post, ;) cairo batted .292 for the yankees this season but he batted .295 for both the drays in 1999 and for the cards and cubs in 2001 so donnie baseball did nothing for him too! one thing i learned with the mets and alot of teams is that the hitting coach means nothing, maybe only in certain cases like jaramillo with texas but that's it, just get good hitters and they will hit, plain and simple!!! :peace: |

Oh enough of the donnie bashing!!! Just because rick down sucks and you know it doesn't mean you have to bash mattingly!!! It's not my fault down sucks and mattingly just better!!! Believe me I know all about down!!! And when you see certian hitters on the mets start to swing and miss alot and swing for the fences you'll know who to blame! |

i don't care if it's down, brown, cow and frown or donnie baseball, hitting coaches don't matter, they don't f*cking help, it's all bullsh*t, the yankees have like 7 all-stars in their lineup, they especially don't need a hitting coach to help them out!!! |

So I guess Don Baylor is a bad hitting coach with the bad year that the Mets had offensively. Give me a break! Hitting coaches and Pitching coaches are best when they have good hitters and pitchers. The coaches don't make the players, the players do. |

personally all coaches in baseball are overrated, other then pitching coaches they actually make a difference from time to time. |

3rd base coaches do matter, just look at fat matt galante, he was f*cking terrible, i do think pitching coaches matter too but like i said before hitting coaches make no difference!!! |

Yeah, Matt Galante cost the mets at least 4 games this season. Then add in the fact that as infield coach it was his job to help tutor Matsui. |

third base coach do matter somewhat, the only thing they do is wave their arm, it doesnt take a f*cking genious to know how good an arm the outfeilders have but galante did suck |

You have to keep in mind the speed of the baserunner, where the ball was hit, what kind of bounces the ball might take in the stadium, how good an arm the OFer has, and how good an arm guy making the relay throw has. you can't just stick anyone there. |

Acctually Rick Down is a better coach then you all think. I was watching a Yankee Classic game from 1995. Jim Kaat was talking about Rick Down and saying how he was a very good hitting coach and he was explaining some of Downs technices about hitting which were very good points. |
