This is a baseball winter that could be defined by a lack of big-name trades. But if all of Omar Minaya's dreams come true, then the Mets' new general manager could buck the trend.

At the general managers' meetings, Minaya has met with many clubs -- among them Anaheim, Baltimore, Detroit, Los Angeles and Texas -- to gauge their interest in catcher Mike Piazza. He has also peddled outfielder Cliff Floyd, who like Piazza is considered overpaid and injury-prone.

Yet Minaya hasn't merely been attempting to unload his veterans. In meeting with the Rangers yesterday at the Ritz-Carlton, Minaya discussed a deal that would send infielder Jose Reyes to the Rangers for second baseman Alfonso Soriano, who would be moved to rightfield. Minaya could pursue free-agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera, who played for Minaya's Expos before being traded to the Red Sox on July 31.

All of the discussions were considered preliminary, although, as Minaya said, "Things can go from preliminary to reality in 24 hours."

the bastard is going for a 3 pointer, he's gonna trade reyes, floyd and piazza!!! :no1:

i understand that but i feel that minaya is trying to hard to make a splash, these might all just be rumors but minaya is known for being agressive and making trades just to make them!!!

You know what? I'd rather revamp the mets entirely then go into next season with the same team that finished last or second to last the past three seasons.

no matter what the mets aren't going to go into next season with the same team, i just don't want minaya to trade guys like reyes and piazza and get guys like green, sosa and soriano, that's just f*cking stupid!!!

Trading Piazza for Sosa, or Reyes for Soriano is just stupid. Trading Piazza for Green, though, is just common sense.

no it isn't, trading piazza for either sosa or green is just stupid, just keep piazza for 1 more year, let him finish out his contract!!!
