FNB, you're so desperately anxious to get rid of Piazza that you'd probably trade him for Felix Heredia. :serious:

I wouldn't do that deal. :peace:

I just dont think he is as broken down as most of you think, or as broken down is Green

If not for an ijury, he was on track for another Piazza-Like season in '03

And I want a Met fan that has watched last season to tell me they dont think Piazza was effected at the plate by the position switch, I think its blatantly obvious that he was

Injuries are part of the game. "They Count". :serious:

When did I say they didnt count? Thats not the point at all.

All your "projections" (i.e. "if he didn't get hurt".......... but he did.) :peace:

plus your "projections" yada yada yada :blahblah:

You remind me of folks who say that if Mattingly (who is my favorite player of all time next to The Babe) didn't hurt his back, he'd be in the Hall of Fame........... but he did hurt his back. :serious:

Piazza is my favorite player and I would prefer that the trade not happen, but it does make sense. I listed the reasons it makes sense in a previous post and I am not going to list them again.

But this idea that the Mets shouldn't do this deal because Green isn't good enough compensation for Piazza is rediculous. Piazza is due $16 mil next year and he will be a 37 year old catcher at the end of the 2005 season. You aren't getting anything back much better than Shawn Green. Piazza hasn't done much of anything the last two years and it is tough for me to believe that next year will be any different.

it's not about compensation, it's the fact that green and piazza are pretty equal so the trade doesn't make sense, sure it could help the mets cause they would not have piazza behind the plate anymore but it hurts the lineup, phillips and wilson just can't cut it and having piazza as catcher opens up the 1st base position, the mets can sign delgado or sexson who are way better then green!!!

Yup. Getting rid of Piazza forces us to play Wilson and Phillips at catcher, which weakens us considerably in the lineup. I'll deal with Piazza's so-so defense if it means his bat stays in the lineup (and he can still strike fear in pitchers and come up huge in big spots)

I just don't want to hand over the catching duties to Wilson and Phillips. If we had a stud catcher waiting in the wings, I'd think more about this deal. But right now it just creates more problems for us as far as the lineup is concerned.

Would you have a problem with it if you signed a decent hitting catcher, like a Greg Zaun?

Yeah, but that's never gonna happen. And under the plan I posted earlier you'd get Green, Ordoņez, Delgado and Zaun.

Just because he idolizes Manny doesn't mean he's gonna hit like him.

You are missing the point, of course injuries are a part of the game, of course they happen and im not making an excuse for it.

What im saying is that the wide spread assumption is that Piazza is not the same hitter he was. When in fact it can be proven that he is, thats the purpose of the projection; not to make an excuse for the injury but to show that he is still an all-star caliber player that was clearly effected by a position switch last season.

Its not reason enough to get rid of him
