that we didn't end up signing Dampier for 6 or 7 years, for 70 mm (Via sign and trade). That would have been the second worse contract this franchise this team has ever seen, right behind Houston's. (Nothing against Houston himself) Dampier would have started falling onto the downside of his career by the second or third year of his contract, and he would have been UNTRADABLE. More untradable than Anderson, probably. It would have gotton ugly by the 3rd or 4th year. On to Vin Baker; I think it's a good signing. Only 2 years, barely a risk at all. If he turns out to be as good as he was, as the beginning of last season, that's a huge plus. In no way, is he the final piece (We are a long ways away from that) but he's a good step. He's good insurance too, in case Sweetney is still not quite ready, and if other people get injured, or if Nazr just completely sucks. Plus, since he has a good contract, he is tradable. You can argue that we have too many power fowards and backup centers now, but if he doesn't work out the way we want, then either trade him, or put him on the bench. I don't see anything wrong with this signing. |

you make some good points AF, i wanted dampier but the knicks not signing him isn't going to kill me, they aren't going to win any champions with or without dampier anyway!!! |

true, although we could have used Dampier, we need an athletic and tall frontcourt and i heard Dampier is slow like anything. Nazr will benefit. |
