August 16, 2004 -- White Sox GM Ken Williams remains ticked off at the Mets' comments about pending free agent Magglio Ordonez.
Williams and Mets GM Jim Duquette seem to differ on what constitutes tampering; Duquette told The Post he would attempt to call Williams to straighten the matter out. Williams, although concerned he was adding "fuel to the fire," didn't hide his displeasure.

If that's tampering than how about Steinbrenner saying publicly that he wanted Randy Johnson?

Anyway, it seems as if Duquette doesn't know how to shut up. he told Fran Healy that Hidalgo was probably going to be a Met the day before it happened.

Oh, I thought he was gonna blame you guys for ruining Roberto Alomar. "He was a .336 hitter before you got him. We should have a great player right now, but you screwed him up two years ago."
