We don't need Beltran. Did you see Bernie's homerun yesterday? Did you see the double? And he looked just fine in CF. If it ain't broke, don't waste money trying to fix it. If there was something wrong, why would Beltran idolize him? The Bern Man's got things under control.

Teams run marathons on Bernie's arm and he's lost more than a step in CF over the last few years. Beltran would prevent the runner from taking an extra base and he'll run down balls that Bernie can't get to anymore. If Bernie wants Beltran, get Beltran.

Obviously Bernie can still hit. It would be great if he starts taking grounders at first so Giambi can DH.

:serious: <- And you should know why I posted that.

Mets fan, this team doesn't need a #5 hitter who has 35 HR/100 RBI potential, just a good defensive centerfielder. All we need is someone with range and a good arm and we could bat him 8th or 9th. We need Beltran's defense and the offense is a bonus. Don't be jealous because after coming off a 79-83 season, your owner will most likely low-ball the targeted free agents while the Yankees will go hard after what they need/want.

don't be an a-hole strider and the mets will finish at or a little above .500, count on it!!! :agent: :peace:

I've been saying 79-83 since that team was above .500 and I'm sticking to it.

I'm not being an a-hole. Dude comes over to the Yankees board and starts being sarcastic, calling us greedy. To me, it looks like jealousy.

there''s no need to sign every superstar player on the planet when you have a great team already, i'm sure this offseason steinbrenner will sign pedro, matt morris, steve kline, carlos beltran, i mean come on, a team like the yankees do not need to sign all these players!!!

your different MM, you've been a fan of this team for a long time, for the good and bad, some yankee fans (not all) want every superstar player for every position and steinbrenner is the same way! look i'm not trying to bash the yankees cause i hate wilpon and i think alot of met fans are a-holes too, i guess that's just the way new york fans are!!!

Justin, what's it to him if the Yankees sign superstars and try to make the 25 man roster the "All-MLB Team"? I think that the goal for every organization should be to improve the team, however they can. That's what Steinbrenner wants to do and if he fails, then its egg on his face. Besides, your boy was being disrespectful and fresh. :annoyed:

You don't want Steve Kline to be our LH specialist?

Not when we have CJ Nitkowski. :serious:

In all seriousness, when is BJ Ryan a FA?

Anyone else notice that Beltran is hitting 260 this year?

I can't wait to give him $100 million.

He'll just become another untradeable contract for us. But hey, we're collecting those. <_<

Fu<k Beltran. We can get a decent glove for alot less.

He's a career .280 something hitter. He hit .300 last season and its been a big dropoff this year. I don't think he's the best fit for us, but we do need that defense. If there was someone out there who could do .320/5 HR/55 RBI/45 2B/7 3B/.410 OBP/50 SB/120 R and play Gold Glove defense in center, that would be perfect. But ofcourse....

Gotta do the best you can with what is you have or can get. We're gonna overpay for him because his 35 HR this year (on pace) and 40/40 potential is gonna put an additional $50M in his pocket, but right now, he's the best we can do.

And another thing...Beltran is only 27. We can use the youth. The key is to find a way to rid ourselves of Giambi's contract.

Only way that happens is if he retires.

I can see how it might. He'd have to learn all the new pitchers on the fly......... ;)

You're overlooking death. I'm sure George goes to bed at night saying, "God, they've said that you're a Yankees fan...."
