Villone as our lefty specialist?

Keep an eye on tonight's starting pitcher for Seattle, Ron Villone, as a potential lefty specialist/long reliever/emergency starter for us down the stretch.

He's having a good season. He's got an excellent 3.53 era, with a 4-2 record. He had one really bad start against Baltimore where he gave up 7 runs in 3.2 innings. If you take that start out, his numbers would be phenominal.

What's particularly interesting is while the league is hitting .214 against him, lefty's are hitting a miniscule .194 off him. He is 34 so it's not like he would be a building block in Seattle and he makes $1,000,000 so the Yanks would have no problem affording him.

I wonder if he would get through waivers, but one plus is Boston has already wasted a waiver claim so unlikely they'd claim him...

Seattle started negotiations on a contract for next season with him a few days ago.

Could be just a plot to raise his value. If he was available, I think he'd be a good alternative.

I would like to see Ron Villione here as well but it won't happen.

Honestly, Torre has this fascination for using Felix "the disaster" Heredia.

So I guess, C.J. Nitkowski stays with the team. :smirk:

I could be wrong, but I can't see how a lefty like that making a few hundred grand for the rest of the season wouldn't be claimed off waivers.

Felix is in Tampa. With any luck, he'll get swept out to sea by the Hurricane

You are right, Heredia is in Tampa. I still wonder though......Does Torre still think about using Heredia over Nitkowski?

Hey BBF4, why do you have a station wagon in your sig? :dunno:

Well considering he used to list the Plymouth Acclaim as one of his favorite cars, his taste in wheels is a little off. The Magnum is at least cooler than the Acclaim, which was one of the most non-descript cars of all-time.

I agree though, it is nice to have BBF1 back!

As for Villone, I'd take him, but I think someone would claim him on waivers. You never know though.

I had a idea, probably a dumb one but you can't really lose on it. In the last week in September, when everyone's getting rest, call up Felix Heredia and have him start. Let him work out all his problems in a "AAAA" situation. The games won't mean anything by then and if it helps him, great, if not release him.
