To the clowns who said "he sucks" when I suggested trading for Russ Ortiz (when the Braves were back in the standings and were considering trading him): He was named National League pitcher of the month in July with a 5-0 record and 1.67 ERA and has now won 6 straight. Lifetime he is 100-57 and has won at least 14 games every year beginning 1999. The guy seems pretty good to me. |

Ortiz is NL trash. Hideki Irabu won pitcher of the month award multiple times, that award means squat! |

Doesn't matter anyway since the Braves weren't trading him. |

Rob, not just one month. His stats since 1999, except for one year, have been very good. I'd say he'd be a #3 on this team beating out Mussina and perhaps beat Javy as our #2... |

he's a national league pitcher, he would get raped in the AL. |

Wadda ya think Javy is? How about Schilling? Both "NL" pitchers. Are you saying you wouldn't take Jason Schmidt? He's a NL pitcher. This NL pitcher "theory" is dubious... :serious: |

Maybe if it was an offseason move, it wouldn't be awful. But I still hate the idea of adding another NL pitcher, especially if we had done it midseason. Takes too long to adjust to a new league. Vazquez has had a real tough time and he's been here all year. |

1) I personally think schilling is very beatable and whats that word im looking for... oh yeah he sucks. 2) Since when did Russ Ortiz throw 97MPH? 3) I didn't say every NL pitcher would suck in the AL. 4) Russ Ortiz would get treated like Mussina if he was in the AL. 5) the "Theory" is that average pitchers could excel in the NL but would get raped in the AL. |

I don't buy the theory. btw/ to put things in perspective: Russ Ortiz's career record 100-57 3.88 Jason Schmidt's career record 99-71 3.89 Javy Vazquez's career record 76-74 4.16 Schilling sucks??? :please: |

If they traded for him in the offseason, that would be ok. Give him some time to adjust to the AL. |

Well, he might be worth talking to. Though we all know who will be number 1 on George's list, though I really don't think he should be. |

I'll agree with that idea YF03. It's all hypothetical anyway because he's Atlanta's Ace and the Braves are probably going to win their division. It only would have been possible when they were about 5 back (when I originally suggested that we get him) if they had kept on losing and dumped him at the deadline. Obviously not happening now. |

Yeah, it was obvious it wouldn't happen once the Braves started winning again, but like Amit said he's an fa at the end of the season. Maybe he'll be a fallback option. |
