Its obvious that this team has 5 basic needs:

Catcher
Right Field
Left Field
Right Handed Set Up
Left Handed Set Up

And of course the possiblity of losing Benson, but thats remote seeing as both sides want to get a deal done.

Players they should look at:

Catchers

Damian Miller- .294, 8 hr, 43 rbi
Eli Marrero- .340, 6 hr 26 rbi
Mike Jacobs- Norfolk

* You will not see Varitek on this list bc/ he has hit only .245 on the road with 6 hr's and 24 RBI. Out of Fenway he is a bust waiting to happen He is also a Career .242 hitter on the road

Right Field

Richard Hidalgo- .265, 17 hr, 59 rbi
Danny Bautista- .311, 11 hr, 55 rbi
JD Drew- .307, 24 hr, 65 rbi

Left Field

Magglio Ordonez- .292, 9 hr, 37 RBI

Right Handed Set Up

Mike Timlin- 4.02 ERA 53.2 IP
Steve Reed- 2.49 ERA 47 IP
Felix Rodriguez- 3.43 ERA 45.2 IP
Jay Witasick- 3.29 ERA 52 IP

Left Handed Set Up

Steve Kline- 2.35 ERA 38.1 IP
Alan Embree- 4.35 ERA 38.i IP (0.96 ERA in ;01 before switching leagues)
Chris Hammond- 4.15 ERA 30 IP
Eddie Guardado (mutual option)- 2.78 ERA 45.1 IP

Of course there are other over rated aging players I didnt mention, but these guys are the most important. This is what I want to see next year assuming we trade Floyd for prospects since nobody knows what the market for him is. Obviously the preferable trade value would be a left handed power hitting catcher.

Reyes
*Wright
*Matsui
Ordonez
Piazza
Hidalgo
Cameron
Jacobs/Marrero

*Interchangable, only way to provide some left handed balance

Glavine
Zambrano
Leiter
Benson
Trachsel

Looper

Kline-Rodriguez
Embree-Reed
Stanton-DeJean/Bottalico/Strickland

(DeJean or Bottalico wont be back, the one is battles with Strickland in spring)

I like JD Drew, but he's a Southern Boy who will most likely do whatever he can to stay with Atlanta.

i'm still a little worried about signing a guy like j.d. drew, he's injury prone and had his best season this year, his contract year, i wouldn't go after him!!!
