It's Up To Erick

It's D-Day for Erick Dampier.

The Warriors have accepted the Knicks' sign-and-trade offer of Nazr Mohammed and Othella Harrington, but before agreeing to sign with the Knicks, Dampier, the 7-foot free-agent center, has a meeting with the Hawks' brass today in Atlanta, sources said.

The Knicks want Dampier to visit New York tomorrow before he makes his decision, which could come as soon as today, but Knicks president Isiah Thomas has had phone conversations with Dampier. The Knicks have offered Dampier six years starting at $9 million after Thomas met Saturday night in L.A. with agent Dan Fegan.

The only thing I fear is his defense. If he plays too much defense, he won't make it off the bench under Lenny!

Reporter: Lenny, uhh, why did you give Vin Baker most of the minutes at center down the stretch? Dampier was having a great game.

Lenny: "He had blocked 4 shots in the first half and pulled down 9 rebounds. That's....too much defense. :no1: "Yeah, I don't really like that. Something just didn't feel right about all those blocks. I think it hurts team chemistry."

That was pretty much the justification he gave for taking Sweetney out in favor of KT in the playoffs. :no1: And his justification for playing Moochie over Frank for much of the regular season.

Hey, if we only give up O' and Nazr for Othella, then that's a huge trade for us. Neither of them did TOO MUCH for us. I did like O's energy though, and he always gave 100%. If Dampier comes to us though, and plays the way he did last year, then that would be HUGE.

I just hope that he isn't a contract year player. The type of a-hole that goes all out in his free agent year just to get a big contract, then does sh*t afterwards. That's the thing with guaranteed contracts. Outside of personal pride and wanting to win, which some don't have, there's nothing stopping a player from being lazy after signing a long term deal. That's if he does come here. He might chose Atlanta if they offer more, plus there's no pressure. He better hurry up and make the decision. The longer it takes to be announced, the more skeptical I get.

Hey, why couldn't this trade have happened during the season? Golden State knew that Dampier didn't want to go back and they were shopping him during the regular season. We didn't have Nazr at the time, but they could have still sold Erick for cheap when they saw the market wasn't horny. They're selling him for cheap now. Its not as if they needed him for a playoff run.
