Oh man, now you guys got me wanting to play again. I used up all my free games. :no1: It would be tough to replace Quantrill and Cairo on the fly, but you have to give something to get something. I'm not a huge Zito fan, but he'd be a huge upgrade over what we have now. I'd rather just see us get Guardado anyway and get Randy Johnson. |

It was a pretty common thing for a lot of people who really read into his K ratios towards his latter run with Oakland. I remember always liking Zito, because he pitched the best of the 3 against us early on, and his curveball was insane. His fastball had a lot of late snap and his change was damn good too. But there were a lot of people from fantasy ball that would point out he was losing the Ks, so thus all his stuff was flattening out and he wasn't fooling hitters. Turned out to be correct, but I don't think anyone could have imagined him being as useless as he's become with San Francisco |

I did, well not to this degree, but I thought he would be bad and not decent or average. It wasn't just because of the strikeouts. He was sitting 85 mph and was walking people left and right because nobody would swing at his curveball. Hitters would sit on the fastball and hit it hard, he was giving up homeruns all over the place. How he was still putting up decent ERAs those last few years in oakland was confusing. |

He was throwing in the 80s? That would explain some things. I always remember Zito snapping some lively fastballs at like 90 or a little higher. |

His last year in Oakland he was down to 85 for average fastball velocity according to Bill James (no I don't have the handbook, i read it somewhere else). He would get it up to 88 on occasion if I remember right, I guess he can't even do that anymore and thats why he somehow pitches as bad as he does in that park. |

Zito's fastball averages: A's 2005: 87.3 A's 2006: 85.8 Giants 2007: 84.5 Giants 2008: 84.2 |

Good info. I didn't know that. Brings me back to that assdouche Jim Kaat acting like MPH readings don't matter. Of course they do. Same with pitch counts. There's just too much evidence in this day and age to excuse them |

Well, Mulder was good at the time. He's another guy who became a total lesbo. He's as pitiful as Pavano will all the injuries. |

I wonder if Oakland, who is usually good at getting pitchers out of there before they totally suck, passed up some sweet deals for Zito. Maybe the compensation draft picks they got was worth it |

Mo Ulder was nasty at times. He'd have a string of CGs on less than 100 pitches. Like you said, he was just too fragile. I remember them saying he used to put up heavy weights in the weight room. That might have something to do with it. I would think pitchers need to work on stamina, not powerlifting. |

It's possible. Makes me think they should just let all the records stand. |
