Knicks Working On Crawford Deal

Quote:

Jamal Crawford remains a realistic target for the Knicks this summer as Isiah Thomas and Bulls general manager John Paxson exchanged trade proposals yesterday for the second time in four days.

But while Thomas appears to be closing in on Crawford, all the rumors and innuendo about Kobe Bryant possibly joining the Knicks are dying a slow death.

Thomas yesterday gave the Knicks a "less than zero" percent chance of acquiring the top free agent on the market. Of course, in his next breath, the Knicks president revealed that he may meet face-to-face with Bryant next week in Los Angeles. Why? Maybe Thomas wants to throw his name into the mix for the Lakers' vacant head coaching job or he simply likes playing the role of the prohibitive underdog.

"Chances are we're not going to sign Kobe Bryant," Thomas said. "So, don't make it like we're getting ready to get Kobe. Then, all our fans are saying, 'Damn, you didn't get Kobe.'"

I kinda have a soft 1/2 woody (all the guys know) over Crawford. You want to get excited because he's the only significant addition we can/would make, but he's not what we need. Like I said in another post, it won't improve the team that much and I think it'll cause a little heat. Crawford averaged 17 ppg and I think he had two 50 point games (that's what gets you hard), but he only shot 39% and we already have Houston at SG and Stephon at PG (blood rush settles and woody starts getting floppy). I guess Isaiah would want a rotation with Crawford getting backup minutes at point and 2-guard, but I think that Jamal would want and expect to start. Besides, shooting isn't what we need. Defense, toughness, and inside scoring. But....such is the life of a Knicks fan. :dunno:

Isiah is probably worried that Houston's knee problems will linger for the rest of his career.

Yeah, it sucks. The years don't bother me; the money does. Teams would trade for Houston if he was still under his old deal, which was something like 7 years, $56 million.
