This better not happen. Hopefully it will be like the other times he has flirted with the NBA, only to return to Duke.

Quote:

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Los Angeles Lakers are in "serious discussions" with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski about their coaching vacancy.

Krzyzewski, a Hall of Fame coach, has led the Blue Devils to three national championships in almost a quarter-century at the school. He informed school officials that the Lakers had contacted him about the job, Duke athletic director Joe Alleva said Thursday.

Oh man, my friend, who is a Duke alum, just e-mailed me and said that it looks like it is done and a press conference will happen shortly. I am so freakin' pissed. What happened to Rudy T??? Dammit! Please tell me this is really not happening.

If anyone hears anything, please update this thread since I am stuck at work for awhile.

Terp, be easy on me, I am superfuckingpissed, as The Wolf would say.

Matt, I thought you hated the Lakers. I always heard that Coach K was one of the more overrated coaches in the game, but that's what I heard. We should be happy that Rudy T isn't going to the Lakers. I want him coaching the Knicks, even though it's not going to happen!

I do hate the Lakers! That's why I am pissed! Actually I would be pissed if Coach K left Duke to go anywhere, but the Lakers is the last place I would want him to go!

I am holding out hope that he's not leaving. Another article on the Duke athletics website:

Say it ain't so, Coach K!

According to ESPNEWS, he's staying at Duke.

He doesn't have the balls to take a chance like going to the Lakers.

I knew he'd stay, you can't get away with not talking to the media as an NBA coach, and most people don't know that whenever K talks to the media its completely on his terms, and then he completely monopolizes the ACC coaches weekly teleconference because all the reporters need Duke sound that they couldn't get otherwise.

There was really no reason to go to the Lakers than to collect a bigger paycheck. I'm just happy everyone that has hated him for years can continue to hate him and that I don't have to watch him coach one of my most hated teams in sports.

Gary Williams is a real peach to the media, right? Why not just enjoy this year when Maryland will clearly be better than Duke? No Deng and no Livingston equals no more Duke at the top of the heap. I don't even know who their point guard will be now that Duhon graduated and Livingston backed out of his scholarship. I am not looking forward to the Sean Dockery era, if it will be him, that's for sure.

Thanks Coach K, for realizing what a mistake going to La-La land would have been.

No, Gary is not a real peach to reporters, he's a world class dick. But he doesn't close the lockerroom after games, he has availability during the day before games for local media, and doesn't act like he's doing people a favor by letting them talk to him.

I remember asking Duke's Sports Information Director at the 2001 Final Four if there was any chance we could have 3 minutes with Coach K for our pregame show. After he stopped laughing, he essentially told us that K's only media access was postgame press conferences (required by the NCAA) and weekly teleconference.

What he left out was that the only other time K is available is for when ESPN wants to suck his dick again.

I'm glad he stayed, I just can't wait to see how many excuses he's got this year.

Then we're both happy. This turned out well.

I won't be happy until Maryland is up by 57 points at halftime in January, and the Cameron Crazies boo before leaving the game to go finish up some engineering homework and play Dungeons and Dragons.

We'll see about the play on the court, but you know the knocks at the student body don't bother me one bit. My friend made fun of those kids too. Actually I made fun of them at the games I went to at Cameron, but as dorky as they are, they do create a nice home court advantage. What people don't see on TV are the completely normal students who sit behind the benches, which is where I was both games. We didn't do any jumping up and down. We just rooted as normal fans would.

I know they don't bother you, but it amuses me.

Plus, all you ever see on TV is the "crazies," none of whom appear to have showered since Clinton's first term.

Maryland is a Final Four team this year, by the way.

Champs next season. Write it down.
