He called you an idiot because amongst a thread of intelligent replies, you replied with an all-caps profanity laced shout.......... It shouldn't have gotten to that point. |

Well i'm jumping in late here, but let me just say that I liked Mattingly23's post -- though that's not unusual and i'll probably be called any number of names because of it. But he's accurate, and its the g**damn truth. There are very few people here who have any perspective whatsoever when it comes to the Yankees, or baseball in general. People who can't even comprehend slumps, or the job of a 5th starter, or the concept of not having an all-start at every position on the field, including the bench. People who fail to see that being up by 6 games in the loss column less than halfway into the season is a good thing, or that if they were a fan of at least 20 other teams they'd be ready to kill themselves. Playoffs every year since 1995 has spoiled so many people, and its really infuriating to read every single day the nonsense posts about how somebody needs their face broken or somebody else is "done" or that the Yankees will lose 2 of 3 in every series for the rest of time. Get a grip on reality, the Yankees are going to win the AL East by 8-10 games, and are going to be in the World Series again. If they aren't, we'll all be disappointed, but stop feeling like its our g**damn birthright to win it every year just because they've been there every year since you were following them. That's enough, Yankees sweep tomorrow. (Book due out mid-July) |

Great post!!!!!!! I feel the same way you do, but I got a little frustrated today with the poor play and bad pitching. I know our team is good, and we need to improve, but we'll be there in October. |

I'm frustrated when they don't win too, but there are ups and downs, so you gotta deal with them. The Yankees loss today was coupled with a Red Sox loss, so it doesn't really hurt. As far as I'm concerned all the Yankees have to do is match the Sox for the rest of the year, then the playoffs will be the time to worry. Seems like a little team slump happening here, they'll snap out of it. |

:o Terp agrees with Matt23, shocking! As for the name calling: You're gay.
Now, I do root for 20 other teams and I have no intention of killing myself.
I agreed with most of what you said, but we differ here. I don't feel like its my birthright to win it every year because I've only been following the Yanks since 1998, but because of the $184M payroll and the talent that we have here. George spends the money to win the World Series and anything short of that is a failure. This team, though flawed, has enough talent to win it all. Its because we haven't come through in the clutch, have underacheived, and been outperformed in key spots, why we haven't won. That's the disappointing part. I just feel that way about the Yankees because that's how it is. I don't have those expectations for the Knicks and you know how I feel about the Giants. Still, I never miss a second of any play and root my stupid little ass off every Sunday. But when a team has the talent and payroll to accomplish something, its understandable for people to get pissed when they come up short. I know what you mean about the "Break his face" or "____ is done" posts, but you seemed to include more of us (including me) in your grouping. |

I don't know who it was, but he left out '02. Obviously, those weren't bad teams/times. Neither is this squad. We'll win over 100 games, again. Like I said before, this team can get drunk, piss on itself, and wake up in the post season. I get annoyed at the mistakes and the team undercheiving (although it'll win 100+), but I know we'll be there in October. Its what happens there that counts. Though it doesn't qualify as "bad", anything less than winning the World Series is a failure. |

Bottom line, is people need to relax a bit. I'm not thrilled with the way the Yankees have played of late, in fact, I'm really frustrated and disappointed. Yes, there are holes, but all Yankee fans should be glad we're looking for a #5 starter and lefty out of the pen instead of some contending teams that are looking for an ace and a closer. |

Thanks for answering my question, Matty. I just ask that you be more vocal in your displeasure with the Yankees. Don't be afraid to even throw in a "cumstain" or "soft lesbain" here and there. |

Excellent post Matt23. You know that I agree with just about everything you said. Although I was a bit surprised to read:
What would it take to change that for you? I'm guessing a starter. |

Yes, either a starter via trade or Contreras finally getting his act together. I don't want to give up a ton though, which is why I would prefer a Jamie Moyer type of acquisition. I'm not upset at Garcia going elsewhere. They obviously wanted a ton, which the Yankees didn't even have to offer. I also think it is possible to win it all with this staff if everything goes right. That's asking a lot though. I am fine with Mussina and Vazquez. I am fine with Brown, if healthy, but I consider that a huge if, always did. I want to see some solid outings from Contreras before I have any real confidence in him. As for Lieber, considering it's his first year back from Tommy John, I am not placing much faith in him to be consistent. |

Matt23, even though I would say you are probably a more knowledgable fan than me, like a lot of posters here (Possibly b/c I don't have cable?), I do think I share almost the same exact views as you: I have LOVED the Yanks since '92, '93. I root my heart out for them like crazy. I would never dream of predicting a loss for them, nor would I ever bet against them, unlike certain posters here. Same goes for my Knicks (Even though I am realistic with both teams.) With this being said, I agree that it is so vital that we develop our young players and keep them for once. That's the main reason we won in '96 and '98- '00. OUR OWN young players of Jeter, Pettitte, Bernie, Mariano, Posada blended brilliantly together, and it helped even more, when you mixed them up with the right veterans, like Cone, O'Neal, and Tino. In almost all cases, a sports franchise has to have the right mix of young, mid aged and old guys in order to win a championship. That mix has to mesh perfectly, and they have to compliment eachother. Talent is huge, but that's not the only factor. Ever since we brought up Soriano, it seems like all the players in our farm system just dissapeared. We need to start pulling more Vazquez type deals. We need to go for players who can still improve, on the Yankees. About the pitching: I wasn't thrilled about our rotation during Spring training, and I don't love it now. I am rooting for Contreras though. Unlike Matt23, I do kinda like him, but maybe that's just b/c of his family situation. I just like rooting for those kinds of people. If he can get his act back together though, and pitch up to his potential, then that could be HUGE for our Yanks. Now, I've been on my comp for awhile. I am finally finished with Nassau Community College. I need to smell the fresh air. If nobody read this post, oh well, but Matt23, I consider you to be one of the most knowledgable fans, and I enjoy reading your posts. |

Thanks AllanFan. I want Contreras to do well too. I don't want to have to trade for another pitcher. I'm a huge Knicks fan too, so I relate with you there as well, although I think Houston is more of the problem (the asinine contract that was handed to him) than I am sure you think. That's a discussion for another forum though. |

Bumped to remind people like yanksfan03 that I get pissed and down on the team just as much as everyone else. Some of things I mentioned I wanted didn't happen, but the main points are still valid. |
