Trevor Ariza

Notes: A former McDonald's All-American. Ariza withdrew from classes at UCLA and informed the NBA that he would be available for the June draft. He has since hired an agent and is now in the draft for sure.

Upside: Has good, but not great, athleticism and quickness for his size. He's got excellent court vision who has the potential to be a point forward in the pros. He's more comfortable in transition or playing on the baseline. Is very long with a great wing span. His jumper extends out to about 18 feet. His defense is still ahead of his offense at this point.

Downside: Strength and his overall perimeter game. Ariza, like many kids his age needs another 20 pounds of muscle to play in the NBA. His three point shot is very suspect.

Insider Projection: Scouts think he's a big time talent, but think he's making a major mistake coming out this year. He hasn't done enough at UCLA to prove that he's worthy of high pick. So far he's been unimpressive in workouts and did just so-so in Chicago. A likely second round pick at this point.

He had a nice dunk in the ESPN highlight package. We know that he can atleast jump. HOWEVA, he's a small forward and we already have Hardway, Shandon ( :annoyed: ), and DerMarr. He probably won't make the team. I wonder if he can play defense. That's what this team needs.

actually, it told us that he can play all 3 positions like Penny, has good D, and can slash. We have a mini Penny Hardaway on the squad ready to make the team next year.

Well, Ariza did come out early BBall. They are saying that he had the potential to be a top 10 player in the college level, if he had stayed in college.

we'll see...Isiah needs to clear a roster space for him by trading Shandon somehow...

maybe the Knicks could do this by trading Shandon & Deke for Raef LaFrentz? everyone may think that would be a horrible deal because he has an even worse contract, but at least he can give you something for the money you pay him if he's healthy...& the extra roster spot would be great to open up more of a role for DerMarr & Ariza next year...i think the Celtics would have to consider that one...maybe the Knicks could squeeze out a 2nd round pick from Boston too if they play their cards right...the only problem is that Isiah & Ainge seem to not like each other at all, so it might take another team getting involved to make it work...this is about the only deal that i can picture to get rid of Shandon at this point.

I would do Shandon and Deke for LaFrentz. The Knicks aren't going to be under the cap for a long time anyway. LaFrentz would help the Knicks more than Shandon does.

i could care less, cuz all i know is Shandon doesn't help this team when he's healthy...i'd rather open up the roster spot for Ariza or DerMarr to get more burn next season.

Raef's contract is HORRIBLE, but that's the only type of player we can get for Shandon at this point...if you get lucky, he'll return to his prior form & we'd actually have a talented C for the first time since Camby left...he's 28, so by the time his contract runs out in '09, he'll still be of serviceable age...& i don't think there's any question that no matter what the Knicks will never be under the salary cap w/the way James Dolan's mind works.

You're confusing me with Rob. I was never very high on Colon. I said he was a possibility, but I always wanted Vazquez more, going back 2 years. I was also dead against TRADING for him like everyone wanted to do 2 years ago. Signing him as a free agent to be the 3-4 starter is another story. Come to think of it, Rob wasn't super high on Colon either. It's ok, you like Asian players. There's nothing wrong with it. Maybe Kaz could back up Marbury?

Cliff Floyd? I NEVER wanted Cliff Floyd for the same reason I didn't want Rondell White. I don't want players who are always hurt. You're grasping at straws, buddy.

True, you have convinced me. I want Cliff Floyd on the Knicks next season. I am not asking for it to happen, I am demanding it.
