He said that Kobe's seriously considering signing with the Knicks. Although he'd only sign for the MLE, its rumored that Nike has an agreement with Bryant that if he beats the case and signs with New York, they would restructure his contract and pay him upwards of $80M. I assume that with New York being the great media market, it would provide more exposure and open up some more commercial deals. Not that L.A. isn't a big market, but its not New York. Plus it would be his team, he'd have a chip on his shoulder (beating rape and leaving Shaq/Phil's shadow) and that makes it a little easier to market him. In addition to the bigger Nike deal, there would be more endorsment deals available to him. With $5M coming from the Knicks, $10M from Nike, and maybe an additional $5M coming from commercial deals, he'd still be well paid.
I'm kind of 50/50 on this and about 30% of the 50 that says, "It could happen" is wishful thinking. If I weren't a Knicks fan and heard about this, I'd doubt it. With Jackson leaving, Shaq requesting a trade, and the owner obviously being more comitted to Kobe, it looks like his best option would be to resign with the Lakers for a max deal. But I'm hoping. Gimme some thoughts on this.

I wouldn't mind Kobe, but the Knicks really need size in the middle. What about trading Alan Houston and a draft pick for Shaq?

:lmao: Come on! No superstar will EVER take a paycut like that. And i don't think Kobe will get endorsement junk from anyone. Even though Iverson still has Reebok and has got arrested for something big, I don't say Kobe will get any endorsements from anyone. I do not see Kobe restructuring any contract. ANd actually, it's not his team, it could be HOuston's and Marbury's so he doesn't have control of everything. Besides, my man Stephen A. Smith also said that in 2005, there are good chances Phil Jackson might head on over here to NY, since Isiah really likes him as coach.

Kobe Bryant's reputation is shot. Even if he's found not guilty he still has the fact that:
He's admitted to cheating on his wife He's had several public fights with his teammates He's shown that he's not a team player
I'd be shocked if he gets a big endorsement deal.

Come on fuİkface, that's bull. The entire nation is not the Bible belt. Though it has an effect, he's still marketable. Kobe Bryant is Kobe Bryant because he's a great basketball player. Look no further than Reebok. Did Iverson's A5 sneakers not sell like a sumbitch in 2001? Doesn't Reebok and NFL apparell still endorse Ray Lewis? After winning the Super Bowl, everyone had a 52 jersey.
The marketing plan of today's world for today's athlete is "edgy". The tough guy or the bad boy with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Remember the Garnett/Duncan commercial this year? Proving the haters and doubters wrong. Kobe Braynt will be made out as the guy who was shunned by teammates and coach, accused of a crime he didn't commit, convicted in the court of public opinion, but is resiliant enough to fight back and beat all that - now he has his own team and something to prove. People like the underdog or the person who is made out to be the underdog. We all know how much Iverson's ass was kissed during that run to the Finals. Little man with big heart. He was supposed to be too small, selfish, a problem child - he's come back to prove the critics wrong. "They said that he wouldn't be anything without Shaq. They said that he was selfish and not a team leader. They said that his career would be over. Look at him now...."
What's with that "not a team player" bullsh*t? The man leads the team in assists every year, hits the clutch shots, and carries the team for some stretches of the season. Just cuz he's a loner and doesn't get along with Shaq (whose ass he's forced to kiss) doesn't make him a bad teammate. Give me the most talented player in the league who brings it every night and has drive and determination that hasn't been seen since Jordan. I get sick of people looking for the fuİking milk and cookies pussy.
I'm not saying that the deal would happen and I like I said before, I doubt it, but this stuff about him not being marketable is ridiculous.

i am looking forward to seeing Kobe's wife at courtside sitting next to Spike Lee...then the next step is to get the Kings to take Allan Houston for Chris Webber & having Tyra Banks joining them at courtside...now that's a picture worth taking...the NY media would eat it up! ;)
C - Nazr / Doleac (LLE) / Mutombo PF - Webber / Sweetney SF - Thomas / Penny SG - Kobe / Anderson PG - Marbury / Frank / Moochie
:P dreaming is fun.

Shaq has even less of a chance to be traded here than Kobe does of signing here for the MLE...the Knicks would need to match $28 million in salary to make that trade possible...so unless you are going to send back Tim Thomas, Kurt Thomas & a bunch of useless filler that the Lakers would have absolutely no interest in whatsoever, forget about that idea.

Heh heh. Try Marbury, H20, Kurt Thomas, Nazr, two future first rounders for Shaq, Rush, Payton (Payton didn't opt out, right?).
We're not trading for any top 20 player without giving up Marbury, end of story.

Exactly. The Raptors want Marbury if they decide to trade Vince here, but it´s not a favorable trade. Hey Solace, do you know BBall´s website? I lost it. :no1:
