There's this thing called matchups......and some teams cant be matched up well. The pistons struggled against the Nets....fast breaking teams kill them, and they almost lost due to that (only a major choke job by the nets and a certain injury to a certain player let the pistons win that series....f*ck you if you think otherwise(nets will win next year, we will win, f*ck you if you dont think so, nets are better, kidd was hurt)) The pistons played better against a half court team in the pacers, but still lost 2 games because of the good defense indiana played. And now the pistons got the team they wanted, half court, slow, and not as great defensivley. I dont care about the 4 superstars, 2 of them are old shits anyway. The pistons got themselves a matchup that was perfect to them and ran away with it. THat is why they will win the NBA finals. All about matchups. |

Good points. Exactly why the Nets got flattened by San Antonio and the Lakers the last two years because they had zero inside presence, (Lakers), and no one could drain a perimeter shot in the San Antonio series to soften up the middle. Kittles was awful. The Nets need to grab someone that can consistently bury outside shots, or someone that can consistenly score on the block. Jefferson and Martin and tweeners. They show flashes, but when it comes down to it Jefferson is not a consistent outside threat, nor is Martin a consistent inside threat, especially in a half-court set. They're incredible on the break, but if they don't add one of these components, they ain't winning nothing... |

He would be perfect. What's it going to take to bring him to Jersey? They'd probably have to part with Jefferson or Martin... |

In the Pistons vs Lakers series, Matchups mean something, but the team defense means everything. Shaq is having his way, and if it were strictly about matchups, then the Lakers would have this series won already, b/c of Shaq. Shaq dominates Ben, Sheed, Okur. Pistons collapse on him. Boom. Pistons take the bait and fall in the trap. The key in the last 2 games was making Kobe useless. While Tayshuan did great work, it was also about the team defense. Whereever Kobe went, there was a second Piston in his Mug. It reminded me of the Knicks mastery defensive plans a few years ago, when they would always shut down stars like Vince Carter. Then suddenly, the Knicks fell, b/c they stopped playing this team defense. OF COURSE good matchups are important. But Kobe is still in another Universe than Tayshaun and Rip Hamilton, and Shaq is a better big man than anyone in the NBA. But b/c the Pistons came up with a plan to shut down one of those 2, and keep the team defense swarming around the other role players, including Malone and Payton (B/c that's what they are, on the Lakers), the Pistons are up 3-1. Another KEY is CLUTCH f*cking BASKETS. All of the Lakers opponents, except the Spurs last year, couldn't hit jack squad against the Lakers in clutch moments. Yet, suddenly, meet Chaunsey, Rip, Rasheed, Lindsey Hunter, and Tayshaun. ALL OF THEM have hit some huge shots or made big plays for the Pistons, during clutch moments. And by clutch, I don't just mean the closing minutes of the 4th quarter. I am talking about times when it looks like the Lakers are gonna make a run, and your guys just stick a fork in their hearts, again. Also, the Pistons not getting overcocky is important. When Kobe hit that 3 in game 2, he acted like the Lakers won the series, and once again, one would think he was God, the way he acted. Meanwhile, with every clutch shot the Piston made, it was "LETS GET THE f*ck BACK ON DEFENSE NOW!" and they did. With every game won, guys did their post game interviews, hit the showers, maybe a team meetings, went home, prayed to God, went to sleep, and went back to business the next day. You see something missing in that small list? NO CELEBRATING! The Pistons are here to win a championship. They are not here to say "We gave the Lakers a fight at least!" They came to win, and that is what they are going to do on Tuesday. |

Excellent points. What the Pistons are doing is while they are big and gives them an advantage over the nets or pacers, they are letting shaq be shaq and then shutting down everyone. Kobe looks silly, plus the rest of this lakers team STINKS! |

It's not even that, b/c the Lakers, in fact, have very good role players, desireable on most teams. Derek Fisher is the perfect backup PG. Malone is Malone and Payton is Payton. Rush will be pretty good. As will Walton. The Lakers have good role players. It's just that their weaknesses were exposed by the Pistons outstanding defense, and it's that simple. ET, I haven't seen you in awhile. How are things? |

I'm not so sure about Fisher et al. Fisher is perfect for this team because he makes open shots. And he gets plenty of them playing with the league's best player, (Bryant), and it's most dominant, (Shaq). Put him on any other team, and things he does well would be taken away. Look at Robert Horry this year with San Antonio. What the heck did he do? Playing with Shaq and Bryant certainly helps. Overall, I think the Lakers supporting cast is awful. Combine Bryant not playing well, with Malone's injury and Payton's sulking, and this team is Shaq and Tex Winter. That's it. Rick Fox is an aging piece of sh*t that can't do a thing out there anymore. Devean George shows flashes, but he's so inconsistent, and he's very volatile as well. Walton will get better, but asking a rookie to step in and contribute big time in the Finals when he got very few minutes all year is ludicrous. Medvedenko only contributes when he makes shots, which isn't often. He does little else. All you ever see if Shaq or Bryant yelling at him. Detroit has let Shaq be Shaq as you said, and then has contested Bryant as much as possible and play the others straight up which results in them doing exactly nothing. The thing that surprises me is that the Lakers don't go to Shaq more often. There was a stretch the other night when he didn't even touch the ball for 5 straight possessions. He should be scoring 40+ every night in this series because he has to. |

Don't underestimate the power of the cheerleading done by both Horace Grant on the bench and Brian Shaw in the row of seats directly behind the bench. Just kidding, the Lakers are done. |
